NGD: Installment #1

I've been craving me a Gretsch for some time, now. So with the help of some Christmas and birthday gift cards, I finally gave in to my desires and bought myself a new 2019 G5230 in Aleutian Blue!

This may be one of the purdy-est gee-tars I've ever owned. This sparkly "Aleutian Blue" is gorgeous... the way it changes in the light. Sometimes it looks like "Cobalt", other times it looks almost deep "Ocean" blue. It's quite stunning. I retrieved it up at the FedEx pick-up location too late in the evening to plug her in and see what she can do. But that will be happening tomorrow!

For now, here are some pics:

Be on the look-out for another "NGD" thread (Installment #2) where a Gibson will be the focus!

the walls will rattle and quake

barre chords'll be a piece of cake

and make no mistake

Plugged it in a little while ago and ran through my usuals.... some Pretenders, some Police, some Neil Young, some Stones, some George Harrison... even a little Cult. Clean signal, dry, effects, overdrive, etc., etc.... This guitar sounds amazing—and stays in tune surprisingly well with the Bigsby. I'm used to guitars going way out of tune after employing just a small amount of Bigsby. But this thing hangs tough.

Very pleased with this guitar. If anyone has been looking to buy a Gretsch, and has been debating over whether to buy a Japanese-made Players Edition vs. a Chinese-made Electromatic...? I labored over this same dilemma myself. And even though I'd be full of it to suggest there's no difference between a $600.00 guitar and a $2100.00 guitar, I can say that these particular models stand-up to their Japanese counterparts. I test-drove a 6228 Players Edition a few months ago and I loved it. But I feel the same love for this 5230. The neck has the same profile and plays the same, it sounds as good (I much prefer Filter'Trons over Broad'Trons) if not better(!).... and little things like the classic GRETSCH logo vs. some weird "vintage" logo on the headstock, and the dot markers vs. block inlays made my decision all the more easy to make.

Thanks everyone for the positive vibes and well-wishes!

+1 on the guitar man! I really like the sparkle blue finish. Hope you find it very enjoyable!

Thanks, man! I am hoping to put it to work in the near future. I was "fired" from the band I was in last month, and this guitar deserves to be seen and heard in public. [wink]
