LarryUK Posted February 23, 2019 Posted February 23, 2019 Anyone on here going? I'm going this morning.
merciful-evans Posted February 23, 2019 Posted February 23, 2019 If you do a good enough report, I wont need to go. TBH I didnt realise it was due! I would love to have gone.
LarryUK Posted February 24, 2019 Author Posted February 24, 2019 I went. The food tent hygiene left a lot to be desired. Only two serving and the woman was wearing gloves and picked the chips (fries) up with her hands, then handled the money after. I wanted a new strap but there was nothing to choose from as I wanted a woven and they were virtually all leather. Plenty of guitars and amps to look at, but nothing more than you could see in a shop. £15 to get in and I didn't see anything for sale that I couldn't get cheaper off eBay. So. My verdict. It was an expensive walk around that could be achieved for free on any Saturday. The only things that would make you go would be the small guitar makers. Crimson, Maybach, Eastman etc.
Dub-T-123 Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 Ahh so disgusting to see somebody touch money and then go right back to touching the food.
merciful-evans Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 I called my bassist band mate Paul that Sunday and he had only just left there. He said it was noisy and he wished he had used earplugs. He said the 'foghorn' signal meant everyone had to stop playing. I thought it was going to be an altogether bigger event than Paul described.
Lord Summerisle Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 Once upon a time it would have been a matter of getting a train from Lime Street to New Street, but these days I'm in Virginia, so alas I'm not going. I would have liked to see what Crimson brought to Brum to show everyone. No doubt they'll post a Youtube vid about it soon, though.
Rabs Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 I was meant to be showing there but sadly due to a crappy year I couldn't book it and when I could it was already too late so I missed it.. Ohh well.. Maybe next year if I am still at it..
kidblast Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 He said the 'foghorn' signal meant everyone had to stop playing. I could have used this in my last band. Had a keyboard player that we called "noodles".. he NEVER stopped playing.... Drove the rest of us crazy. I actually shut the amp he was using off once.. It was either that, or I was going to beat him with my strat.

The noise was dreadful. I thought there was a sound limit, but clearly not. On the Marshall stand people were blasting the amps. You couldn't talk over it.
merciful-evans Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 The noise was dreadful. I thought there was a sound limit, but clearly not. On the Marshall stand people were blasting the amps. You couldn't talk over it. An American friend posted a link from a US guitar show that was exactly as described here. That was about 5 years back, and I recall being shocked at the time. Now officially a Grumpy Old git, I can say '...Wasn't like that back in my day'
