Axelorox 2 Report post Posted February 24 (edited) While I love Gibsons, I do not love the strong smell (vanilla-scented) that the Gibson cases have. The smell gets on the guitar and sometimes bothers me while I'm playing it. How do I get rid of this smell? Edited February 24 by Axelorox

AngelDeVille 132 Report post Posted February 25 It’s not the case it’s the guitar. Vanilla is a better smell than cat pee... don’t ask me how I know....
Axelorox 2 Report post Posted February 25 It’s not the case it’s the guitar. The smell becomes much less after the guitar has been out of the case for a day or several. And then after I leave it in the case, it's smelly again. Just the empty case alone reeks of the smell.
Dadgad1046 13 Report post Posted February 25 I just ordered a new Gibson just for the wonderful sweet aroma of Tone... ahhh If Gibson offered a air freshener in the "Aroma of Tone" it would be in high demand and on Back Order at every retail outlet. merciful-evans 487 Report post Posted March 1 They use more than one scent. My ES-339 was vanilla, the LP was different, kind of spicy. Swap it for one of my cases ;)

You can try wiping it down with Gibson polish, and let the case air out for a couple days. Personally, I try to keep that smell as long as I can, lol :D Edited March 2 by arcticsg

SG-12 1 Report post Posted May 24 I love the vanilla smell. That and the baby picture on the workbench are what sets Gibson apart from other brands and supports its premium reputation. A definitive explanation for the vanilla smell can be found on the "everythingSG" forum, posted by "koaguilds" on Dec 8, 2016. "I worked for TKL's Cedar Creek Custom Case Shoppe here in Oilville, Virginia and I can attest it's an additive to the glue used to manufacture cases in order to mask the toxic smell of the lining adhesive. TKL in Canada is the sole provider of Gibson's cases and does the same. A lot of nice theories here but if you've ever worked for TKL you would know. Many of those cheaper Chinese cases do not mask the adhesive's smell and you can tell instantly when you open the case what it's like without said additive."http://www.everythingsg.com/threads/whats-that-heavenly-smell.31885/page-
