Riley_leonar
I have a guitar i got off ebay for very cheap and i cant find out exactly what it is. It is an epiphone les paul special II but it has all black hardware and the celtic cross on the headstock. Epiphone did this on a few models and called it the gothic models but the special II doesnt seem to be one of them. I bought the guitar as a build so the stock tuning pegs and bridge arent on it but i still have them. Ive seen some forum post on other sites about other people who have these guitars and they dont know what it is either im not sure if i can post pictures on this site yet but if i can i will does anyone know what this guitar is? Some people have said it was a prototype or a dropped concept but i dont know if thats the case.
Col Mustard
since it began as a Special ll and you plan to modify it, it becomes what ever you decide that it is. I modded my step daughter's Epi Special ll with a set of Grover tuners, a tusq nut, a pair of Gibson 490 pickups out of an SG, good quality wiring harness and a Tone Pros bridge and tail. The Special ll is now an excellent instrument. It's set up well, and the frets are level. The wiring is dependable and the Gibson p'ups sound better in the Epi than they did in the Gibson SG. So the Special ll can take its place onstage right next to instruments costing ten times as much, and not give up a thing. *grins As long as the neck is straight and the frets are good, the setup is the most important mod. I did a lot of the work on this inexpensive guitar simply out of love. But also, this is one hell of a lot more guitar than it looks like on the surface, so I hope that it's less likely to attract thieves in the dicey world that young guitarists have to inhabit.
