But really... can anyone here tell me why would they want to get married? (and why would they be allowed to? and what is the concept of marriage?)

 

Gay people want to get married for the same reason straights do: there are huge economic advantages. Joint filed income taxes, medical insurance, death and casualty benefits.

 

If you believe that stability is a societal good, why wouldn't you want the stability that a "sanctified (in the case of the church) or "sanctioned" (in the case of the state) status would provide?

1. Gay marriage - Has nothing to do with whether or not gays are married' date=' they just do it out of disgust for homsexuality. If gays want it, they DON'T want it. Homosexuality is a disorder, like so many others disorders that arent discriminated against on such a large scale level. As long as it is not FORCED onto churches to perform the marriages, there is nothing wrong with it.

Imagine the logisitics of enforcing this. Its not financially possible, bad for our national harmony and bad for our national defense. I wish people would stop listening to NRA propoganda. All they are doing is sponging these people for membership fees.

Guns seems to be a big issue for you, you bring them into every post. I wish that you would actually read some NRA propaganda before you start defending liberals on their gun policies.

 

3. Abortion - They ADORE capital punishment and war, yet loathe abortion. Wow, no contradiction there huh? "Thou shalt not kill" didnt have stipulations or exceptions written after it in the Bible I used to read. Maybe it does now

 

I don't know what abortion has to do with gay marriage, but I'll play! The bible in it's original translation, really says "Thou shall not MURDER" I have never met anybody from any place that adores capital punishment, have you?

I'm not a proponent of capital punishment, but I hate abortion. Can you really not see any difference between abortion (the killing of a completley innocent baby) and capital punishment (the killing of a person that has been tried and found guilty of a capital crime)? Have you ever met anybody that actually adores war?

 

4. Terrorism - "Conservatives" think terrorism is a geographical location that can be invaded and bombed. Then theres that insanely idiotic line "We're fighting them over there, so we don't have to fight them over here". Which is a big worry due to Iraq/Afghanistan's massive air force and naval fleets. Not to mention their highly technological missile technology...oh....wait...they dont have any of those things. Oh wait I know, they are going to pack their guns up, fly over here on Continental and invade us via our airports. Or maybe they will fashion canoes out of sand and paddle over here. Better sure up our Coast Guard!!!! How stupid can people be? Seriously?!

The enviroment - Many "conservatives" are "devout" Christians (1-2 hours a week, if it fits their schedule). They claim to thank God and praise him for his marvelous Creation. Then when the "hippie, tree-hugger liberals" try to tell them how we are destroying it, they are scorned for it. Go wrap your mind around THAT 1. Also global warming. "Well this is one of the coldest winters we ever had, that global warming stuff is bullcrap". Ya , maybe it would have been even colder if not for...(wait for it)... GLOBAL WARMING!! "Oh global warming is BS, its a natural cycle. There werent factories and cars back in the 1500s when there was global warming". More small minded thinking. Did they ever stop to think that there could be more then 1 cause to global warming? Geepers! :D

Money (taxes) - Again many "conservatives" are Christians. One of Jesus many lessons was that the love of money is the root of all evil. Yet these "Christians" cry about every penny that they are taxed. That "evil" money shouldnt matter much to them, right? "Give to Caeser what is Caesers" right?

 

How about you give Cesar some money too, so that I'm not the only one paying him?

Or to blend in another topic, by your theory we shouldnt sell guns to anyone because it COULD lead to people murdering people with them? Right? We shouldnt sell alcohol because it COULD lead to a drunk driving accident/death. Need I go on here? The world is always going to have someone who abuses something. Its not perfect. You never know what anyone in goverment is really up to or is capable of, but due to the fact that no intelligence community member from any country points their finger at Bush, I would think it's quite a bit of a stretch to say it was an act of his administration. 5. To top all this off you then infer (from what I can gather in your post) that I have no job. Is that just more "liberal" stereotyping? Or are you peeking in my window/following me?

 

6. Oh i almost forgot, your little change to "Money is the root of all evil" doesnt change the spirit of the principle at all. But lets go with it. If "the love of money" is the root of all evil, and so many conservatives are always so outraged by the government "taking it all away", wouldnt that insinuate that they "love their money"? I mean in order to have that much emotional involvement you must really REALLY care ALOT about it, right?

 

Oh and yes sadly there are tons of people walking around who adore war. They are always dressed in their fatigues. With their Bush/Cheney and/or McCain/Palin stickers on their trucks partially covering their gun rack. Right next to the Calvin pissing on a Ford/Chevy logo. Just below the sticker of their favorite NASCAR driver. On the opposite side of their deer/duck/bear head decal.

 

Oddly enough most of those bozos couldnt get through basic training and would piss their pants running if confronted by a REAL attack or were sent to a REAL battlefield. Hell I work with a guy who fits that description perfectly. All talk, no balls. He's a real "badass" until you call him on it. Now he just quietly spends his days melting his brain away listening to Limbaugh.

 

Which brings up yet another point about "conservatives". I just love how they are so worried about left wing talk shows getting their fair chance on public radio. Because there are just so many of them out there right now and SOOOOOO few right wing talk shows. Why should it bother you? You will still have your shows.

I guess that you haven't heard of the gun control laws in Chicago, DC or N.Y.? In those cities and many other's controlled by your beloved socialists, ONLY criminals can own guns, and MORE people died from guns in N.Y.C, D.C., Chicago, Philadelphia in the last 5 years than soldiers died in Iraq. Lastly about radio, Right wing shows werent popular at first either. They had to develop a following. They were kept alive by the very people who put them there (sometimes at a loss), rich media moguls. They kept the shows alive for years because they knew if they kept bashing the message at people, sooner or later they would start believing it is true. Meanwhile they did everything they could to squeeze out any message that contradicted it (left wing talk shows). I would be willing to bet that TONS of Limbaugh/Hannity listeners wouldnt talk and think exactly like them (like they do today) if those 2 never existed. Its called brainwashing. The same reason I rarely tune into left wing talk shows on XM. I'm not interested in having party-lines bashed into my heads mercilessly (Ed Schultz is ok usually).

 

But now that those moguls will no longer be allowed to squeeze out left wing talk shows, whoa nellie! Now the righties are all so worried. They cant control the message anymore. A fair debate. Imagine that, huh ?

I've yet to voice my opinion on this issue. I like to let the ball start rolling before jumping into the fray. Personally I have no problem with gay marriage. It's a union between two people who are seeking happiness. Who cares. Someone said earlier the prohibition on gay marriage was simply an over reaction to a life style choice. I see no way gay marriage can alter the sanctity of anyone's marriage. In fact I don't even know what that means.

 

My wife's best friend since 1st grade and who now is a psychiatrist has been in a committed relationship of about 10 years and although marriage isn't legal in his state he and his partner have adopted a son. Great kid with great parents who love him above all else. And isn't that the most important thing in a relationship.

I've been gone most of the day and also trying to trouble shoot the amp I'm building so I'm not really going to jump into this topic except for this (I don't care about being a case study either). I will say from what I understand about God as found in the Bible that that God loves people - gay or straight.
