Yes.  They are great guitars. I want to get another one.  Or a Guild D-15. Still trying to talk the wife into that one. Prolly a no go since I just got the D-35.

No disagreement there they are great. I do remember now they are made in US, my bad on that. I must have been thinking of the Road Series or something. I nearly bought the OM in the series recently. Will probably get one eventually. My main point was just that  it’s not a good comparison to a J15, etc, because of the unique aspect of being all mahogany.

I like you, bro.  I have a feeling that we partied together at a Day On The Green or maybe some show at the Old Waldorf in San Francisco ...

Not aware I was doing that. But its funny cause I air my opinions, and I get as you say "SLAGGED" all the time.  Your statement about "Your Opinion Matters" is just not the vibe I get from this part of the forum. I'm here for the same reason most are. I  got my first Gibson when I was 16 and love their guitars and love looking at guitar porn and conversing with people I've become as good a friend you can with someone you never met in your life.

Anyone who's a fan of FZ is ok in my book, even if they are like your cranky brother in law.

By the way Gibson’s are my second favorite guitar. I’m a Martin guy 100% but I love love love my J15.

Once upon a time, I was equally attracted to Martins & Gibsons.  But in the last twenty years, what I've sampled re newly constructed instruments has turned me solidly towards Gibson.  Tone & playability (in particular fretboard radius & scale) all work in favor of Gibson for me.

And interestingly, the other day I popped into UMGF & read a horrific thread in the tech section regarding many recent Martins with binding that has separated at the waist, along with many needing neck resets within the first five or so years of ownership.  These are major issues, and I've not heard of any similarly frequent major problems with Gibsons.  Martin has always been highly touted for it's build quality - I have two which I certainly do enjoy - but it may be that they're coasting a bit on the company's historical reputation.

LOL yes I am. I don’t consider the D15 a “Martin”. It’s made in Mexico not Nazareth PA. Might not be a huge deal for some but it is for a “Martin guy”.

Also, the 15s are all mahogany (top included)  which is cool and all but is again an apples to oranges comparison. Really more of a specialty item.

As already mentioned, the 15 Series are USA made in Nazareth. They’re also exceptional guitars and sound amazing. I’ve owned several 15 Series Martins including a couple 000-15m, a custom 00-15m and played my fair share of 000-15sm and D-15m models.  Seriously great sounding guitars, and I hesitate saying, “great guitars for the money”, because they’re just great guitars regardless of the price. Only reason I don’t own them anymore is because I just prefer dreads, and own 2 Martin dreads (D-35, D-18) and 2 Gibson’s (J45, AJ), and not in the Market for any more guitars. If I was in the market for another guitar though, it would be a 000-15m.  They’re that good.

Yep agree no doubt. The 000-15m is on my short list. However it was mentioned as not a “competitor” to the J15 because it’s more of a specialty item (ie, not a Spruce top dread).

I owned a Martin 000-15s at one point.   I never warmed to the guitar for a few reasons.   My first impression upon opening the case was disappointment, as the tuning machines were gold.    Def. not my favorite, and  not what was listed on the spec sheet (chrome).    I had to wait a long time for the guitar - basically, for it to be built, so I didn't (maybe stupidly) return it straightaway.   Nevertheless, its hard to forget a disappointing first impression.    I also found the guitar very very susceptible to humidity, more than any other guitar I've ever owned.   I'm not sure if that is characteristic of mahogany top guitars that they hold more water, or just a one-off with mine.   Especially in summer, the guitar often sounded 'wet'.     I also never warmed to the fact that it was a 12 fretter and I missed the versatility of a 14 fretter more than I thought I would.     Just my experience, though many  people  clearly love these guitars, and hog guitars in general.
