nick8132
I've been playing guitar for about a year and a half and I'm looking into buying a new guitar and/or amp. I currently have an epiphone G-400 with bigsby and a fender ten-watt amp. I play hard rock, classic rock, and metal. Should I get the gibson Joan Jett melody maker with a marshall microstack, the epiphone marcus henderson apparition with a marshall microstack, or just the marshall? P.S. I'm only thirteen so i'm on a very tight budget.
hans
I would forget everything about buying a Marshall micro (I actually believe they are called mini-) stack. In your price range maybe a second hand Randall tube amp of some sort. If I were you, however, I'd wait until I had saved the money to buy something better. In the long run it's never a good idea only to make slight upgrades in your gear - it will end up to expensive! Instead find out what gear you would REALLY like to have and save up. Good luck investing!
elantric
If you think you will play with a drummer - i agree, find a used Randall RG80 amp. combo amp or a Randall Stack. then add a 4x12 Great sounding amps. Take your G400 to a Luthier and have them to a Fret Level and Dress and setup.
Wonker
I currently have an epiphone G-400 with bigsby and a fender ten-watt amp. I play hard rock' date=' classic rock, and metal. Whats wrong with your G-400? if it is in good shape and plays well I say keep it. Save money on a better Amp. You can play a high dollar Guitar through a cheap amp and it will sound like crap. ...but you can play a low dollar guitar through a high dollar amp and sound great! Just my $.
pohatu771
I'd also say buy a better amp. The Epiphone Valve Junior is quite nice, and there are supposed to be new models coming... eventually. The Valve Junior Hot Rod and the Valve Senior head and combo, specifically. I don't know what the price is at the moment, but I paid $250 for mine... they're probably up to $300 or so now. If you can stretch it, buy the Blues Custom combo or a Fender tube amp.
GMS0623
depending on what kind of music you play, crate amps are great. they have a really versitile tone, good in overdrive and clean, and have the normal run-of-the mill effetcs (phlanger/chorus/ect) but you could always get a pedal too. they run anywhere from 300-700 for a mid sized amp around 100 watts or so. i was stuck betwen a marshall mg100HDFX and a CRATE GX-60c, (both 100 watts) and got mine for 225. instead of the Marshall which was 1/2 off at guitar center for 500. marshalls are still top notch, but only for an experianced player. and like gibsons, theyre rediculusly over-priced.
