P90 Hum.

We all know about pickups being affected by lights etc and P90's are one of the ones that are.

What do you do to quieten it? What replacement P90's are the best? H/B P90's?

I bought a pair of P90s where one of the pickups was reversed wired and reversed polarity. When I got into a big hum situation, selecting both pickups cancelled the noise.

It was a compromise that worked in those uncommon gig venues where there was the interference that caused the hum.

P90s are my very favorite pickup. I love the pure tone, the attack response to my picking force, and the range of dynamics.

The RWRV pickups were from a guitar I no longer own, and I bought them years ago. They were probably either from Seymour Duncan or Guitar Fetish.

Hi Larry, what you may want to consider is something like a noise gate. I use a Boss NS-2 in my chain which doesn't affect the tone of the guitar. It definitely minimizes the buzz of single coil guitars just sitting plugged in and amp powered up, and can even be used to tame some "squealy" pickups - like P90s - under higher gain situations. Either way, it's a simple thing to try if interested in going this route. I bought my pedal used for a good deal and it helps a lot. I bought it for reasons of playing single coil guitars at louder volumes and higher gain. I love the tone, but need to clean up the buzzing.
