dattob310
Looking at buying a 1971 Gibson LP Custom, in sunburst, were they ever issued with gold top hat knobs, and single ply cream pickguard and cream pickup surrounds? if I can question its originality I might be able to knock a few hundred dollars off.[
modoc_333
nope. those parts are wrong. i have a 71 custom too. i actually like the gold knobs b/c mine is black. yours is not all original though. get a good deal on her! they really are cool guitars, but people are asking too much for them these days. they are cool old guitars... but no vintage. old does not equal vintage so don't let them rip you off! modoc_333
if it's in good shape and a good guitar (some are dogs) then yes. that's actually exactly what i paid for mine.
sok66
That era Custom should have all black plastic and witch hat knobs. It was pretty common back then for guys to swap out the knobs for the reflector type, either gold or black. Also very common for the fretless blunder frets to have been replaced with jumbos. As noted, some of those were great guitars.
