Hummingbird Electronics

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know exectly what brand/model electronics the factory would have put inside a 2012 Hummingbird?

Also, how do you know this?

Is there some place official where I can learn things like this?

Gibson fitted LR baggs pickups

Previously it was Fishman, not sure of the year they switched but it was a few years before 2012

Which Baggs pickup is it?

Doesn’t really matter, because it most likely sounded like garbage. Was probably an Element pickup.

Yes, but if I want to sell one I want to give complete details.

So I came here for that knowledge.

In that case I’d also disclose its a garbage pickup! Ha!

All joking aside you could just unscrew the endpin jack and pop it out and you can see what it is.. I’d bet it’s this one...

I do believe that is it, because it only has a wheel as far as controls go.

Exactly, so it’s an Element Active. The one with two thumb wheels was used several years later, called the Element Active VTC.

VTC stands for Volume Tone Control. .

There is also a Baggs Element VTC... volume and tone control. But if you have just one wheel, then Baggs Element.

That pickup (VTC) is actually the best UST out there in my opinion. Gets maligned too much.

Frankly, anyone installing a UST is going to have a preamp and good EQ, to get the sound they want.

I actually think the Element itself is one of the better USTs in its field. It's let down by the easily overdriven stock endpin pre, but the pickup itself is decent, as DTAR proved when they twinned it with their 18v endpin pre to create the Wavelength.

The Fishman Matrix Infinity is a much better UST, but the Baggs has its place and possibly works better for some applications than the Matrix. I only have one UST in any of my guitars currently (Matrix Infinity in my SJ200) though, I much prefer my soundhole pickups and K&Ks, but that's just personal taste.
