G Mac Posted April 16, 2019 Posted April 16, 2019 Today is Stefan Grossman's 74th birthday! For those of you not familiar with Stefan, suffice it to say that he is one of the finest blues fingerpickers alive today. I think he belongs in the thread about underrated guitarists as well! If you search him on youtube you will find many fantastic lessons for country blues picking. Here is a video of him in his younger days...Enjoy (it's only two minutes of your life!)!
pippy Posted April 17, 2019 Posted April 17, 2019 Happy b'day Mr. Grossman! I have a few albums of his, both solo and along with John Renbourn, and was fortunate to see him in concert duetting with the latter in the mid-'80s in Edinburgh (where I also bumped into him somewhat unexpectedly in the gent's loo during the half-time break but that's another story)... Pip.
jdgm Posted April 17, 2019 Posted April 17, 2019 I too saw him many years ago, once from very close up. Until recently I still had some LPs on his label - Kicking Mule - these came with very detailed tablature booklets.
merciful-evans Posted April 17, 2019 Posted April 17, 2019 I too saw him play many moons back. Learned quite a bit from his albums. Yazzoo Basin Boogie cant be beat for ragtime.
