Epi 2-hole Truss rod Cover?

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks,

I'm doing some Lennon-style work on my Epi Casino and would like to get a vintage-style 2-screw hole truss rod cover. I would love to buy one from Epiphone, but I've heard that they don't sell them as parts.

Does anyone make reproductions? My current cover has three holes and it just doesn't look right.

Vintage ones are quite pricey. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Larry

If your Casino is built like most epiphones, the cavity below the truss rod cover likely extends all the way to the back of the nut so there's no wood to screw the lower cover screw into. Also, a two-hole cover won't completely cover up the cavity. I suppose it would be easy enough to glue in some wood to make it work but your truss rod adjustment would be buried in the process.

You might be able to custom order an Epi two-hole TRC from someone who makes aftermarket pickguards & TRCs, such as Terrapin Guitars. Typically for such orders, you need to provide the exact dimensions.

Personally, I have not seen anyone from common outlets, such as E-bay or Reverb, selling a two-hole cover on a regular basis.

Just curious, did you take off your three hole cover and verify that the two hole version will work?

Even if no wood is present directly above the channel at the nut, I've seen examples where the owner secured the TRC by the top screw only, and then put a short screw with a clip on the bottom that did not mount to anything (to complete the visual effect).

If the flat base of the TRC rests evenly against the nut, the top screw will be sufficient to hold it in place.

I’m trying to match Lennon’s Casino, mostly for fun. The TR cover is one of the simple things you can do.
