In 1970 I had the opportunity to attend a clinic put on by Mundell, at the time I was focused on percussion and just getting into guitar.Tonight I was YouTubing and ran across this recoding from his early years, He was light years ahead of everyone at the time,

Great posts.....[thumbup]

Mundell was indeed a fine guitarist....showing taste and much harmonic knowledge....

Saw him in the 90's with Andre Previn and Ray Brown

Andre is an icon of the classical world and was much loved

Perhaps not the best trio for out and out jazz.....

Previn was incredibly versatile, He tends to be pigeonholed as a classical artist, but he was so much more.Mundell started out on the Grand Old Opera before WWII, he was just a kid, he met John Hammond when he was in the Army Band on Guadalcanal, after the war the two started working together, he played with Doc Seversen. Billy Holliday, Ella, Ellington, the list goes on and on, so many movies sound scores, TV shows, Hawaii 50, that was him playing, the Wild Wild West, his work with Benny Goodman. But he also played a roll in reigniting Roy Buchanan’s career.

I was privileged to see Mundell Lowe in concert with Martin Taylor.

80's I think - at The Bull's Head, Barnes - a jazz pub in London.

A great player from the greatest era of jazz guitarists.
