merciful-evans
This was inspired by Karloff's post in 'Hobbys'. I wondered what his favourite was. I also wonder what everyone's is? So here's mine: Dead of Night - 1945 I recently replaced my DVD with a Blu Ray version (yes it is better) and it also had a featurette which in future I will watch before playing the movie. The imagery & imagination makes the stuffy 1940s dialogue well worth it every time.
Mr. Natural
I like the old Universal monster movies from the '30s: Frankenstein, Dracula, The Wolfman, The Mummy, etc. Island of Lost Souls and Werewolf of London (the movie, not Warren Zevon) are also favorites. I'll have to check out Dead of Night.

Karloff
Merciful, Dead of Night is a really good flick. my all time favorite has to be the Bride of Frankenstein. with Lon Chaney's The Wolfman a close 2nd. the Wolfman was the 1st movie that actually scared the crap out of me as a little kid. up til then it was all just fun and games. but the Wolfman ? can't out run him and who the heck has a silver bullet. this concerned be as a kid lol.
Big Bill
I enjoyed a lot of those movies, really didn't "scare" me, I just dug the vibe they put out. The movie that came the closest scaring me is the original Night of the Living Dead. I starting watching it and it caught me off guard. As far as newer movies, Rob Zombie has a couple of good ones. After watching "House of 1000 Corpses" , when it was over I felt violated and had to take a shower. Edited May 9, 2019 by Big Bill
jdgm
"Night Of The Demon" - very good except the Demon looks a bit silly now. But mainly - I HATE horror movies since being scared witless by them as a kid, I'm dead squeamish.
brad1
The Excorcist scared the crap out of me. My all time favorite is Evil Dead. Both 1 and 2. Dawn of the Dead a close second.

My kind of horror film too.. Even though they are almost horror comedy... Love Sam Rami's work.. Loved Army of Darkness too.. And ive watched most of the George A Romero zombie films, and the old Peter Jackson ones (bas taste).. Did you ever see Drag me to Hell? It was a more modern take on a Sam Rami film, very similar in style and humour to the Evil Dead films.. Really enjoyed it... Also the Omen 1 and 2, that used to scare the hell out of me too... When he looks in the mirror and sees the 666 birthmark :o Also, The Shinning.. Classic. Edited May 10, 2019 by Rabs

And I think I thought it was OK. But I just cant't remember for some reason. Memory is going in my senior years. The Omen. Good call! I saw that on HBO when I was in High School about 1979. It terrified me. And I loved it! I thought the Shining was, well, not good. I am a King fan, read most of his books. The Shining, in book form is good. But the movie left me unsatisfied to say the least. I know however, that many people seem to like it and pick it as one of their favorites. I'll have to check out Dead of Night. Yes, I grew up with them all. My dad was a fan of Horror movies and I watched them with him. Theres a lot of favorites back but the newest one I like is with Anthony Hopkins, "The Wolfman."
Karloff
as far as new horror flicks, Sinister creeped me out. Sinister 2 sucked. but the 1st one with Ethan Hawke was creepy.

uncle fester
When I was in the Coast Guard on one of my ships, every week on Friday while underway we would make pizza and they would show Army Of Darkness. Nice, our repeat go to movie (college) was Monty Python's Holy Grail, not a horror film - but a classic none the less. Must of watched it 100 times. Looks as though I need to check out Army of Darkness too. Apparently it has a comedy element? Roger Corman's 'The Raven' is a good late night spooky comedy. It has a classic cast: Vincent Price, Boris Karloff and the excellent Peter Lorre. A very young Jack Nicolson appears too. For me, Lorre steals every scene he's in. Apparently it has a comedy element? Another title for Army of Darkness is Evil Dead 3. Its a direct follow on from ED2 but way different in terms of its setting and probably the most amusing of the three.. Bruce Campbell is pure genius in it
american cheez
for those of you who can handle subtitles, there are some horror flicks you NEED to see audition: japanese, and will scare the crap out of you. i first saw it with a buddy almost 20 yrs ago. the killer makes a certain sound at one point in the movie. to this day, i know if i call my buddy at 2 am and make that sound into the phone, he won't be going back to sleep. a tale of 2 sisters: korean, i had to watch this one 3 times before i fully understood it. watch the korean version, because like all good movies, hollywood did a version of it, and it sucks. let the right one in: swedish (i think) only really KINDA a horror movie, but great none the less. pretty sure there is a dubbed version. honorable mention: the host, train to busan, marebito
