jaxson50
Leon flew under most people’s radar, but he was a superb entertainer and a wonderful person. His love of the old Tin Pan Alley music was definitely contagious if you just laid back and listened. His many appearances on SNL, The Johnny Carson Show and Austin City Limits developed a cult like group of fans and he never disappointed. RIP Leon, Thanks for keeping it simple even though it wasn’t.
Murph
The Free Form, underground radio station I grew up with in Mesa/Phoenix (KDKB) used to play Redbone. I remembered it from my youth and have some on my phone.

jdgm
R.I.P. I still treasure his 1st LP " On the Track" which has Joe Venuti (on "Haunted House"), Milt Hinton, Steve Gadd and Don Mclean playing on it - wonderful! He once made an advert for British Rail in which he sang the song "Relax". When asked if he'd ever travelled on British Rail, he replied - "I took a train from London to Dorking. I had to go and see what a town called Dorking would look like..."

pippy
Ah, now, that is a shame. For some now long-forgotten reason I was given a "Promotional Copy" -stamped vinyl of his 'From Branch to Branch' LP and immediately afterwards tracked down both 'On the Track' and 'Double Time'. In the music press of the time (1981) there was considerable discussion as to who he actually was because he seemed to enjoy a state of almost complete anonymity. Amongst the less-likely names put forward was Frank Zappa... Somewhere along the line I've lost 'On the Track' but the others still get regular play-time hereabouts. Just like Fats Waller before him his enjoyment in playing the music is both self-evident and absolutely infectious. RIP, Leon, and thanks so very much for all the really great songs you have left for us all to enjoy! Pip. Never heard of Redbone but with Steve Gadd and your recommendation, I’m sure I’ll love it

Love the Hanks btw.. anyway loved Leon’s version and after hearing that I googled and see the song was written in 1929. Always loved that chord progression, and the way Leon plays it, there’s kindof an odd stop that’s interesting. Gonna have to learn that guitar part, seems like an important “standard” to know
