The Man Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Hey its gone. I did not even get a chance to see it. It must of been pretty bad if it got pulled that fast.
Thundergod Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 was it a fake? didnt you get the chance to save some pics?
Thundergod Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Whats with the bridge on this one? did they come with that kind of bridge in the 80s? http://cgi.ebay.com/1982-Gibson-Les-Paul-Standard-RARE-Candy-Apple-Red_W0QQitemZ170197529735QQihZ007QQcategoryZ38086QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
GuitarJunkie Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Hey its gone. I did not even get a chance to see it. It must of been pretty bad if it got pulled that fast. Now I feel bad. I actually reported it to ebay. The last few I reported never got pulled, let alone within a couple hours.
AXE® Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Whats with the bridge on this one? did they come with that kind of bridge in the 80s? http://cgi.ebay.com/1982-Gibson-Les-Paul-Standard-RARE-Candy-Apple-Red_W0QQitemZ170197529735QQihZ007QQcategoryZ38086QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem It's gone too ...
Thundergod Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 It's gone too ... i just entered the page... the auction ended with 29 bids but the reserve was not met. Strange... with 29 bids? the bridge looks odd to me.
AXE® Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 I would have liked to have been able to check that out . What appeared out of place with it ?
flyingarmadillo Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 He put it back up under a different auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170199587723&ssPageName=MERC_VIC_ReBay_Pr4_PcY_BIN_IT&refitem=170197529735&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=closed_view_item&usedrule1=CategoryProximity&refwidgettype=cross_promot_widget&_trksid=p284.m183&_trkparms=its%3DS%252BI The bridge looks slanted and twisted. The switch doesn't look right either.
AXE® Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 With the exception of the bridge and the headstock logo, looks like it could be real , I don't really know what year/years the "O" would have been open or closed . But some one has obviously played the hell out of it . I'm more of a player than a expert , L'il too pricey for what it is . NEXT !!!
flyingarmadillo Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 The neck wear seems kind of inconsistant with the body and fretboard wear. You'd think that with that much wear on the back of the neck there'd be a few stains on the fretboard and some sign of forearm marks on the lower body. I wonder if there's not a bit of "relicting" going on here.
Gibson CS Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 It sold for $1680! I cant believe this crap goes on.....e-bay is such a gamble. I dont think the seller was the original owner. Perhaps he/she didnt know its a fake. Alot of people see the word "Gibson" and are star struck. They purchase without putting much thought or research into it. Its tough being a Libra!
Thundergod Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 but why pay 1680 for a used (and kicked the **** out of) guitar, when you can buy an original new unused gibson from any store starting at 300 (melody maker), and with lots of options form 300 to 1700. I mean... i dont know a thing about vacum cleaners for example... but if someone comes offering me a $3000 vacum cleaner the least i will do is search the net to find out how much it costs new, and how much used, and if it is a good product or not... It just doesnt make sense... i feel like im on crazy pills!
FennRx Posted March 7, 2008 Author Posted March 7, 2008 Alot of people see the word "Gibson" and are star struck. i think that's part of it. another part of it is the "i have to win" mentality that goes hand in hand with ebay. i have seen LPs start at 700 bucks and have the winning bid be equal or higher to what it would cost to buy it brand-spankin'-new.
Toner Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 Hey, I noticed it has those "Winder" tuners on it. Are they real Gibson tuners? Even though they are marked Gibson.I have seen them once before and was thinking "Why?" I would think rattles would be an issue, maybe.
1982CARLPEMGS Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Actually, I bought it from the eBay seller...it weighs 10 lbs and I had a chance to play it at a local Music Go Round for a lower price then the eBay seller in bought Maryland bought it before I could. Most amazing LP I've ever played. I've waited 20 years to purchase a real LP and played hundreds along the way...this one SPOKE TO ME! I knew what it felt like and sounded like before I placed a bid. It's just a RARE & Incredible guitar in all aspects. Whoever built this 44th one off the line in Nashville on Day 337 in 1982...did it RIGHT! So...if anyone has any info as to what "Series" it might be...info on the unusual bridge...I'd appreciate it. BTW...just my opinion...but I'd take an older/vintage LP over a newer one ANY DAY! They have some weight to them, they feel better/more solid and they just built them better then than now.
Thundergod Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 im so tired of the old "old gibsons are better than new ones" comment (dont even know if 80s gibsons qualify as old gibsons)... anyway the bridge doesnt look like a gibson bridge, but of course the original owner could have changed it for the one in the picture (for no aparent puropse). Never seen that model before.
1982CARLPEMGS Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 No offfense intended. I'm just not into the light weight chambered body thing. I'm sure there are "reissues", custom shop models, signature models, etc...that feel similar/the same. Just my personal preference. 1982 for a guitar is "old" in my book. I've been unable to find a bridge like it in my "Gibson/LP" Research or an offering of C.A.R. as a color option. Struck me as unusual as well. Thanks for your input. http://s259.photobucket.com/albums/hh301/muttznmongrelz/
