James Allen Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 I've got one. I'm am, as many of us are (at least the older ones of us), a huge fan of the blues. So, just to get a feel for which "denomination" of the Blues is the most liked, I'm posting this poll to find out. I may have missed some obscure denomination, but I've gotten all the major ones, I believe. I vote Texas style. However, Chicago is a close second for me.
deepblue Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 I love it all, but I like the old school Delta blues the best....the "deep blues"
RichCI Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 I don't know one style from the other (except the amped up variety). I tend to like the older recordings as they sound more rustic and earthy.
Jantha Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 I prefer Texas Blues myself.. I just like the feel of it.
Rosewoody Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Well I'm a fan of Peter Green and what I guess I would call "British Blues." I know this is largely derivative of BB King, as well as Freddie, so what ultimately became Chicago Blues (?)
James Allen Posted March 6, 2009 Author Posted March 6, 2009 What kind is Santana? That's the kind I like. Ah, yes! That's kind of a latin blues/jazz. I do like Santana. I stick in one of his cds and just mellow out. He's almost lyrical when he's in the right frame of mind.
MikeRom Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Amp'ed up, boogie, Foghat - Gary Moore type blues. But Chicago and Texas are also mighty fine styles.
djroge1 Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 It depends on my mood, but generally I'll go with Chicago or Texas style. I voted for Chicago this time around- since I lived there for 17 years vs. 5 years for Texas.
Californiaman Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 I like all styles of blues. But it I had to make a choice, either Texas or AMPED UP ROCK-N-BLUES
The Mick Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 I can't give an answer I love them all even gospel
Taylor Player Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 I have to say Delta first as it just seems sooo blusey, but Chicago, Texas and Rocken would be right on Deltas butt!
ChanMan Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 +1 on blues from anywhere... but I gotta go with Beale Street and the Memphis Blues. Unfortunately, we didn't make the list
James Allen Posted March 6, 2009 Author Posted March 6, 2009 Blues from anywhere is a friend of mine. +1oooo
FirstMeasure Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 I go through Blues Phases, but right now I'm on a Rocked Up Blues Phase.
rocketman Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Hmm, having lived in Texas, if I don't say "Texas Blues" then they may take away my visa that I need to visit that country again...
guitarmann199 Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 delta or chicago im not sure. i LOVE jazz blues so it gets my vote
Swmcv2007 Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 I'm not a blues player but I really don't enjoy old rusty recordings. The production just turns me off. Still it's good honest music. This is my favorite bluesy song of all time. It may not have the best blues solo of all time but the feel of it just gets me every time.
:oilpit: Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 I voted amped up, but I don't know if that's exactly right. Usually when someone asks me about blues I say British Blues, but that wasn't on the list.
retrosurfer1959 Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Delta If I'm not playin a LP it's usually a National trying to be Keb Mo. It doesn't get much better than 'Am I Wrong"
Gitfidl Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 My favorite blues pattern was given to me in 1956 in pencil in Chicago on a piece of not pad paper http://paulevents.blogspot.com/ I'ved used it for slightly jazzy blues (straight 12 bar is 4 bars of the same chord) .. it is fine with Night Train, Route 66, Shake Rattle and Roll, Rock Around the Clock, Mean Woman Blues (sometime I think she's almost mean as me), Move it on Over, Blues in the Night, Cleanhead Blues, Red Rooster, Ball and Chain, Eisenhower Blues, Coffee Grinder Blues, Long Tall Sally, Good Golly Miss Molly, Jenny Jenny Jenny, Sweet Home Chicago, Whole Lotta Shakin, Heartbreak Hotel, St Louis Blues, Basie Blues, Kansas City Blues ... many others. Tye Bunny Hop is also 12 bar. Two weeks ago we played blues from 7 in evening to 3 AM without stopping. Some of it I never heard before. You can switch off the blues with doo-wop if you want a change of pace C-Am-Dm7-G7 .. about 100 doo-wop songs use that. Then ther is the old country-western 1-4-5 .. you can probably play for a couple days and not run out of songs. We do that every spring in Fallbrook -- 300 guitars mandolin and fiddles from all over California -- sleeping bag and guitar .. just playing 18 hours straight. Also sinmgers, accordion or two, flutes, ukes, .. mostly guitar and mandolin and fiddle.
Rocky4 Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Amped up blues is not blues. It's blues made easier for white people to digest. Bar band music. The Harley crowd. This is blues........ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGLmZCZ1sXY&feature=channel_page as good as it gets
