A type, Tobacco Brown, teardrop, carved top and back, oval sound hole, clam shell tailpiece with "gibson" logo stamped, irregular rectangular headstock with "gibson" lower case lettering, raised bracketed pick guard...I believe my stepdads father bought it in the 50's, but I cant ask dad or his dad because they have both passed...isn't there a way to just run the serial number.. Hoyt Posted March 7, 2009 Share Posted March 7, 2009 I'd ask the question on Mandolincafe.com. They are big into Gibson mandos. There is definitely a way to date it with the serial number.
