jdgm Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 Took a boat trip up, then down, the river Thames last weekend. My niece's wedding party. Interesting to the forum because we went past this: David Gilmour's old houseboat/studio. It is actually called "Astoria" and there is even a Wiki entry for it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astoria_(recording_studio) Not sure whether he still uses or owns it. Sorry about the thread title, couldn't think of anything better....🦃
Dub-T-123 Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 That is ****ing COOL. As far as I know he still owns and operates it. What a cool idea for a studio This was mentioned on another forum and some people added that Joe Walsh recorded Life’s Been Good on a boat and Thomas Dolby has a solar powered boat studio
jdgm Posted August 8, 2019 Author Posted August 8, 2019 We embarked by Hampton Court Bridge then sailed West - upriver - and it was about 5 mins along on the North bank. Google maps even highlight it - https://www.google.com/maps/place/Fred+Karno's+Houseboat+Astoria+-+(Recording+Studio)/@51.410361,-0.3547844,16z/data=!4m12!1m6!3m5!1s0x0:0x651fe306132e99d3!2sHampton+Court+Bridge+ice+cream!8m2!3d51.4032269!4d-0.3429398!3m4!1s0x48760b472a4798ff:0x216c8bf184d187da!8m2!3d51.4119268!4d-0.3580481
Rabs Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 Nice.. Cant even imagine what that must be worth even if it wasnt owned by a famous person...
jdgm Posted August 8, 2019 Author Posted August 8, 2019 It's a milionaire's playground mate I'm telling you! Perhaps I'll put up some more pics - some of the riverside properties were fantastic.
Black Dog Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 That's pretty cool. And I like the thread title.
uncle fester Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 It is cool (very cool), but yeah, did you get to see Hogwarts?

You may, or may not, have yet reached the critical realisation that the uk is entirely digital. The maps/atlases are wrong. There is no mainland uk. There is just empty water between Ireland and Scandinavia. We are an invention of the Irish; the product of their imagination. They desired one thing more than anything, more than happiness, money, immortality or potatoes. Tired of fighting among themselves, they desired an enduring external oppressor, and the legend of Britain was born. We all went to Hogwarts retrospectively. As soon as the Potter #1 released, we all had the update. I now have fond implanted memories of Hogwarts just like jgdm and Rabs. All 63 million of us live next door to Helen Mirren. Helen is due an upgrade BTW. She is starting to pixelate around the cheeks. Bill Nighy is almost all pixels now poor devil. Oh yes, and all the British bands you've seen are holograms too.

Marky Forrest Posted August 10, 2019 Posted August 10, 2019 The houseboat is amazing. Thanks for the snap.
SteveFord Posted August 10, 2019 Posted August 10, 2019 I see why his hair fell out, worrying over proper humidity for his acoustics and all. It looks like he has it made.
