sunking101
I have a query on flaws in the finish of my 2019 LP Standard. There are some lines running horizontally in the direction of the neck, top and bottom of the bodg but strangely not in the middle. Are they flaws in the maple top, or more likely flaws in the paint? gdecantoo
Looks like typical wood grain lines. No flaws that i can see.
merciful-evans
I see wood grain in your pics. Nothing else. 1
Eracer_Team
Upper bout sure is wood grain. Not 100% certain with the pot location lines, whether checking crack in nitro or just the wood grain. Different angle picture might clear that slightest doubt of just wood grain
Big Bill
That is the wood grain, I find it to look pretty nice myself. Congrats on the new guitar, that is a very nice top.
sunking101
Thanks. So the top is wood grain hut the bottom looks like someone has scored through the paint with a sharp knife?

Black Dog
I see nice looking wood grain and what looks like dirt/dust/lint or something on the surface.

Yeah, lots of dust. I'm leaving the guitar out most of the time to lose that sickly nitro smell which fills my entire flat.
Big Bill
I think your fretting (no pun intended) over the wood grain. To me, that's what makes wood like this amazing, how nature spins these cool shapes and patterns. The 50s Standard comes with a AA maple top which is not as fancy as the reissues and such. I just purchased the same guitar and I love it and I'm sure you will too. 1

I just wanted to check that they weren't paint or nitro imperfections. The lower part around the tone pots particularly bothered me because one of the lines looks like scoring through the paint/lacquer or cracking. I can see how you would be concerned, I guess it could appear as a mar to some folks. Like the rest of the responses, all I see is a nice looking guitar with some nice wood grain. I wouldn't call it a natural imperfection either, that just how the tree grows. Check out mine below, you can see the same type of grain patterns.

Man, when I got my Gold Top, it was literally straight from Gibson and it was so gassy I could only play it for about 30 minutes at a time. Snap. Mine has a May build and I bought it in June! Stinks the place out and I'm pretty sure the hard case will never lose the smell. 01GT eibach
Dude, at the end of the day, your only problem is a having a real BEAUTIFUL guitar! 😉

Wmachine
Wow, you are the first person I recall that does not like that nitro smell. I would think the new ones don't smell any different. The smell will go away, yes faster with exposure. Case (leave empty and open some time) and all.
Marky Forrest
I agree... that's a nice looking guitar and nothing to worry about. Congratulations! As for the nitro odor, on the rare occasion when I get a new Gibson, I can't wait to smell it.
sunking101
The nitro smell gets old real quick. It fills my entire home and never seems to dissipate. Not a fan.
