hawkib33 Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 I had a 2005 Les Paul Studio and altough it is a great guitar, I wasn't crazy about the neck. So I today I bought a Classic, which is excellent. When I checked out Gibson's webpage, I don't see any info about the classic. Was it discontinued?
LPguitarman Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Yes, It was discontinued. I has a 60's slim taper profile neck, most likely a chambered body, & 496r & 500 t ceramic pick-ups. Very nice guitar. Enjoy...
AXE® Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Depending on the year it may not be chambered. My Classic is not... Chambering began in USA Models in Oct 2006.
hawkib33 Posted March 8, 2009 Author Posted March 8, 2009 It's a 2008,so I guess it's chambered. What is the advantages or disadvantages to a chambered body?
AXE® Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 It's up to the owner of said guitar to make that decision... Chambering makes it lighter in weight... The debates of it's advantages and disadvantages are endless... If you like the guitar, it's golden.
NeoConMan Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Post pics! I have a 2000 Classic Plus, top is a little nicer on them. Pulled the ceramics and installed BB Pro's. Doing it again, I would go with the 57 Classic and Classic Plus in the bridge. Very similar output between the BB Pro and 57 Classic, Plus is a little hotter. Perfect.
cistec Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 I got a 2006 Vintage burst model with all the info you could want..so let me know. cistec

daveinspain Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 I have a 2007 Classic heritage cherry sunburst... 2007 is the first year they started to chamber the classic. I wouldn't change out the pick ups because I have other LPs with different pick up configurations. The ceramic pupps in the classic are some of the hotest pick ups out there and have a unique sound. If you want to soften the sound lower the pickups fro the strings and you can get a bigger range of sounds... My Classic Chambered body
