New guitar - Epiphone es-335 pro

Recommended Posts

Is it probable that the strings on this have been on it for years while this guitar sat in storage? They look newish and sound pretty good but I was playing last night and noticed some stuff on my fingers that probably came off the strings.

Not uncommon, just restring it...

could also be the fretbard.  so while you are putting new strings on, I would  treat the fretboard.  (Guitar honey, or F1 Oil from Nomad will do the trick)  - I'd also polish the frets with 0000 steel wool but there, must take care, cover the pickups, and protect the fretboard between the frets. (google fret polishing, you'll find lots of examples)

Kid...I also have the 335 pro and the same thing happened to me. It's the fretboard for sure. You'll need to clean it with a good fretboard cleaner and wipe it down real good with a soft cloth. Not sure why the 335 Pro does it. I've never had any other guitar do this before.

Every single guitar that I've ever picked up at guitar center did this to my fingers.  They must order the extra dirty fretboard editions.   I don't recall that the  339-pro I got from sweeetwater being that bad tho.

Whenever I change my strings, I always clean the fretboard. Changing the strings made a world of difference. I was impressed with the guitar right out of the box but the string change was definitely needed.
