Need help in deciding between two vintage Gibsons

Recommended Posts

I’m down to choosing between a 32 L0 12 fret and a 31 Kroydon kk1 12 fret. The former is near mint. Around 7750. The latter is all original except for refret and lots of finish wear. It’s 5500. It’s 3.5 pounds so not the lightest Kroydon. Both out of state so cant play them. All things being equal do they differ in sound?  I’m curious bc may be worth the extra money to get a guitar in better shape with a truss rod. All input is appreciated. Have to pull the trigger tomorrow!  Thanks !

I would definitely shoot 18 holes with the Kroydon. Kroydon WTF????

Oh now I see Kel Kroydon kk1 12 fret.  Gibson all the way, that way you won;t have to explain it to dumb as**s like me(%

I thought you had already bought the Kel Kroyden?    If not, as I have already noted while many of us feel the lack of a truss rod is one of the reasons the Kroydens sound so freaking good,  my experience has been those built after 1930 often have wafer thin fingerboards which when taken  together can become the source of grief when it comes to neck stability.   So you need to tread a bit carefully around KKs.  On the other hand though , Kroydens built in 1930 are harder to come by than those built after while I have never even laid eyes on one built in 1929.

Thanks zomby. I did but they’re trying to do cites paperwork to send in country. Then I saw the L0. So I could return the kk if I really wanted. But I’ve heard a sound clips and it sounds great. The L0 I haven’t heard and they tend to be more inconsistent from what I’ve heard.

Ive found most Brazilian guitars of the Vintage era.. have been safe.. at least for me anyways..   but that new law that went into effect on Indian Rosewoods and so on.. screwed up alot of manufactures and just trading accross borders in general... hopefully it will work out for everyone soon..
