BCPuma Posted October 4, 2019 Share Posted October 4, 2019 Imagine my surprise when changing my strings on a Siberian Tiger Custom Shop LP, the Stop Bar Tailpiece was stamped "Epiphone". The guitar was a gift from my wife for the Christmas of 2017. I rarely play it and this was the first time I changed the strings. It came from a reputable dealer and considering it has gold hardware, I think it unlikely that they somehow mixed it up with another guitar while restringing prior to selling. However, I could be wrong. Is there anyone out there that's seen Epi parts on a new Gibson? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

AFAIK Epiphones are all made overseas so it wasn't like someone at Gibson reached in the wrong parts bin and grabbed an Epi stop bar by mistake. No worries, you can always tell people you changed it out for better tone 🤣. But more importantly let's see some more pictures of that LP Custom, from what I can see it looks like a beauty. The only thing is if its a new guitar would the store be putting cheaper inferior parts in place and keeping the good ones to sell at a nother profit. 50.00 epi tailpiece verses a 150 gibson tail piece. The rammifications with their customer base as a whole would be devastating. You don't want to close shop on your 20 buck scam. And you don't want to lose your brand partnerships either due to that. I'm done business with the dealer for years and have bought several instruments there. I don't believe they would have done it with deceit. Most likely a mix up. It sounds fine and I don't think there's any real difference in the two except for the branding. I wound up selling it privately and when I went to pick it up a major part was changed and it was visually obviously worn out. The owner swore it was never touched. Once I told the locals who were in the collecting and use end of the business the store went from mostly full to empty. He killed his own reputation and was out of business within six months. I put NOTHING past retailers. BCPuma Posted November 19, 2019 Author Share Posted November 19, 2019 Resolution at last!! The dealership worked with me and Gibson and obtained the correct part. They never denied being the source of the mix up, the ones that may have accidentally swapped it and assured me they would do the right thing without the assistance of Gibson.
