155
I have a 07 standard and on the 5 fret around the inlay it like the rosewood chipped out a little when they routed out for the inlay. Does anyone else have this it isnt very noticable but Im very anal and when I look close I can see it. How the hell does this get through qc? I meen come on $ 2400 bucks for that wtf? Is there anyway to fix it? I bought this from a friend so I guess the warrenty isnt worth a **** either, which I think is ridiclous see as it an 07 and how can it not be a least warrenteed for a year? wtf this policy needs to change! Im not that psyched about the qc that went on with this guitar.
Raptor
It is not all that unusual, especially if the inlay is near a pore in the wood where a larger piece can be torn. It might even be a pore in the wood that you are mistaking for a tear out. Inlays are not the easiest thing to set. Without a picture of it, it is difficult to say if it is within the normal range or not. There is no such thing as a perfectly made guitar, there are always areas that are more difficult than others to get 'perfect'. I guess the question would be why didn't you notice this before you bought it and then you could have said no thanks? Will your friend give you your money back? Then there is always the remote possibility that it was something that happened while your friend had it. If it is not putting splinters in your finger when you play then it is nothing to really worry about. If it really bothers you that much and you cannot give it back, then sell it to someone else and get something else. If you want to fix it, find a good woodworking shop and get a rosewood lacquer stick and fill it, Just be careful not to melt the inlay, they are acrylic. Post a pic of it if you can. 155
its really hard to see unless your really close and the fact is i love the axe but it just annoys me, im a woodworker so i know how wood tears out and this is what happened, but im thinking of melting a stick in there, but then it may be noticable. bottom line is the gibby warrentee pisses me off! and the tuners are such crap this is a whole other issue. Raptor
Yeah that is tear out. The piece on the left of it looks like a larger piece came up and was glued back down. It looks like a spot of glue and an edge along the top of the suspect piece. I am talking about just between the A and D string. It happens from time to time. Again I know it bothers you, but if you can't feel it when playing then there should be no problems, but I do understand where you are coming from with it. A lot of people get so excited when they buy that they do not give it a thorough inspection (not necessarily meaning you, but rather the previous owner). I go over every inch of a guitar when I buy one, and I look for things that I can use to ask for some money off the price. I have enough guitars that I don't get too excited anymore. I think there are coloured epoxy fillers that you can use cold, so you wouldn't risk melting the inlay, but I am not sure if they come in rosewood. You could always add some colour to it as you prepare it. Good pic BTW. As for the tuners, There is nothing wrong with the tuners on Gibsons. What problems are you having with them? Plank_Spanker
No offense, and just me, but I wouldn't lose any sleep over it if the guitar plays, sounds and looks good. Play any guitar long enough, and it will start collecting dings that will be much more visible than that wood around the inlay. Do that guitar right - plug it in, crank it up, and play the hell out of it.
MikeRom
Gibson guitars come with a lifetime warranty. Work something out with your friend, maybe since he's the original owner he can get something done. For $2400 I would expect perfection too but since you didn't buy it new your options are limited. Did you buy it from your friend for $2400, or is that the original price the he paid? If you dig the guitar don't worry about it.
155
yeah lifetime warrenty until the axe changes hands, that what Im calling bs on, if it covers workmanship wjat the hell does it matter who owns the thing? honestly there really isnt much that could be done other then slightly filling it. Thundergod
well the warranty should work that way, if you give warranty regardless of how many people have owned the thing (any thing) then how can you be sure it is a warranty issue and not something done to it by one of the many owners? It is not your case, but you wouldnt believe how many people asks for warranty being the 10th owner of something they did buy with flaws or not functioning, i dont know what the word for that is in english, but in spanish we have some. Your seriously cant ask to have a lifetime warranty endorsed everytime an item, in this case a guitar, changes owner, it doesnt make sense. What you can do, since you bought your guitar off a friend, is to ask him to go to gibson for the warranty, if he is the original owner they dont have a way to know he sold it. Plank_Spanker
Good luck invoking the lifetime warranty on a second hand guitar. Something tells me that there will be "issues" with that. Again, to me that flaw is so minor as to be a non issue. You need good eyes up close to see it. To declare an otherwise great guitar BS based on that is a little thin, but that's your call. If it plays great and sounds great, why bother with the magnifying glass flaws? Just play it and have a great time doing it.
