Sgt. Pepper Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 (edited) So my wife who loves Garth and got us tickets to see him next year in Charlotte. When we went on our Honeymoon to Las Vegas he was doing his lounge act there at the Wynn Casino and since it wasn't a real concert and since I new would get some that night, I took her to see him. So, I shut my mouth and did not make fun of that bald pudgy waste of space during his SHOW. She has seen him about a half a dozen times before we met. Jezzus haven't I suffered enough? I will just have to remember to keep my mouth shut and just go with it. I'm sure I will be partaking in lots of bourbon and the vape with the attatched cartridge from the 21 and over stores from California we have. I take my my wife to see good shows and this is how she repays me. I will have to listen to him play his "music" if that is what it is called for 2 hours. Maybe I'll get a blowy that night. I do have a bad @ss pair of cowboy boots I got when I went to Austin several years back with my wife that I will be sporting. Edited December 18, 2019 by Sgt. Pepper Quote
Notes_Norton Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 Ah, just do it for her. Consider the sacrifice an act of love. Fortunately my wife and I have similar tastes. We like most every kind of music and share most of what we don't care for. Where we differ we tolerate the other's tastes without any negative comments. Insights and incites by Notes Quote

Tman Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 He did a "rock" album years ago and it was pretty good. Maybe he'll play some of those songs. Have a few stiff drinks before the show it'll be OK. Traffic after the show is what I always dread. Quote
SteveFord Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 If you're lucky he'll throw a guitar pick into the crowd and you can catch it and sleep with it under your pillow! Quote

Retired Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 And I thought being drug or forced to see Liberace when are son was born was the worst ever. He even started chocking at the concert and we had to do CPR. 1 Quote
Sgt. Pepper Posted December 19, 2019 Author Posted December 19, 2019 (edited) That's scary. I know CPR and hope I never have to use it. Don't you do the Heimlich on someone who is chocking? Edited December 19, 2019 by Sgt. Pepper Quote
Murph Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 Garth has written some good stuff, and he was turned down many times before he was picked up doing a solo at the Bluebird Café in Nashville. I've done those. I don't like pop Country music, but Garth got there on his own. He earned it. Quote
Karloff Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 there's a couple of his tunes I like but I blame him for turning country music into the crap that it is today. Quote

deeman Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 I hope when I get older I don't become an elitist snob. Mr. Pepper, this isn't a good look for you. Just enjoy the f-in show. I'm not a huge fan but boy can he put on a show and he is extremely popular for a reason. Quote
rct Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 I may or may not like Garth at all, but a rock show is a rock show. If you aren't excited by a bunch of band members just killing everything they do, and his band will, with a front guy out there taking all of the heat for all of the singing and showing, which he will, you might want to get another hobby. I have taken Mrs rct to shows I wouldn't pay a nickel to see, I enjoyed every single one and she has never known I didn't like the act at all. Prolly one of the few reasons for 43 years together, 39 of them married, that can be directly my doing. Go, enjoy all the Fenders and Gibsons and Martins and whatever these kids are using these days. The band will be giving lessons in putting on a rock show and that is always a joy to watch. rct Quote

Notes_Norton Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 (edited) My favorite kind of music is Symphonic, from the Romantic Era to the Present. I like jazz, especially "cool school". Salsa is nice, Latin Jazz is good too. I do take my music seriously and find even Mozart and Bach too simplistic for my tastes. There is complex music for the brain, and simple music too. I consider the simple music like junk food for the ears and don't expect much nutrition out of it. Fortunately my wife has similar tastes to myself, but if she wanted to go to see a Garth concert, I'd go as an act of love. In a marriage the most important thing to do is make your wife/husband/whatever happy, and for the wife/husband/whatever to return the favor. Sometimes it will take you out of your comfort zone, but if the marriage is healthy, the favor will be returned. IMHO If the giving pleasure is not reciprocal, the marriage isn't working. There is very little real Country Music out there, and I wish people would quit calling it that. It has become "Nashville Music", pop music with a twang and filters to thin the voices of the vocalists. Me? My pet peeve in the music world is singers who can't sing without auto-tune. kidblast Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 (edited) just to put a positive spin. years ago, I took my Daughter to see Boys To Men when they were all the rage. She really wanted to see them, so off we go, The wife, myself, her, my son.. my wife and I a bit disgruntled to say the least but.. what ever.. The opening act was Brandy and it was horrible. ("Oh God, how do we survive another several hours of this tripe).. The next act was Baby Face. this guy was incredible. Great band, and a great performance. So I was thinking, ok, at least THAT was worth it. The next act up is Boys To Men.. Let me tell ya, I can't emphasize enough.. they just KILLED it.. I was amazed with how well this show was planned, and executed. They were GREAT. So, my advice: just shut up and GO! Make the best of the night and take it all in. The music aside, GB is a pro and I'd expect a pro show will be delivered. Edited December 19, 2019 by kidblast 1 Quote

What d!ick that guy is to the nerve to actually like good music. Why did the outlaws break away from the Nashville machine. Cause they were fed up with the the way it was done and the joke it is to this day. Remember the You Tube Thing about the top I don't remember how many country songs, and when played back to back all sounded exactly the same. Who the world needs is 1000 more songs about booty shorts and jump up in the fronts seat of my F150 and Budweiser and my tractor is sexy and my dog ect ect. So, if you like Garth and Taylor Swift ect, knock your self out and go enjoy them. I like what I like and I'm not settling for underwear skid. My wife is a huge Garth fan. I've heard a ton of his music and if I liked it I would not be afraid to say so or listen to it , but I don't. That 90's era country to me is silly. I don't get him. Maybe you do. I like Wille, Waylon, George, Merle , Dwight, Chris Stapleton, and a few others. I know Garth has written songs that people like. I Got Friends In Low Places Vs The Abbey Road Medley? MMM what should I choose? Am I a music snob - absolutely, guilty as charged. Edited December 19, 2019 by Sgt. Pepper Quote
Sgt. Pepper Posted December 19, 2019 Author Posted December 19, 2019 (edited) Wow, I'm glad I'm allowed to express my opinion. Are you guys seriously getting your panties in bunch cause I'm not a Garth fan? What would happen If I say in the past I've owned a Fender Strat? Would members show up at my door with pitchforks and burning stakes? Looks like this place is gonna be a joy to hang around. Yep I know what the next post from some one would be, "you can leave anytime". So I typed it for you. Edited December 19, 2019 by Sgt. Pepper Quote

Zeppelin - Rock, AC/DC - Rock, Garth - Not Rock, except that album where he played it off that he was some I think some Australian Grunge Rock Star. Garth is a Takamine guy from what I've seen. When I saw his Lounge Act in Vegas and most of the pics and stuff I've seen of him he played a Tak. Quote
