jdgm
Jazz musician Vic Juris passed away Dec 31st , cancer - he was only 66. The guy was not well-known, but an ace jazz guitar player. I will always remember his 1st 2 albums in the late 70s; the 2nd LP made me want to give up because he was so fast, assured and fluent. Clean, very modern style - a bit of Wes, some Pat Martino - he knew the tradition and the language. I finally got to see him at a guitar concert which also featured Bireli Lagrene and Barney Kessel, perhaps Martin Taylor too - I can't remember - Croydon Fairfield Hall, late 80s. I shook his hand at the end and said how great it was to see him, which surprised him. And by God he paid his dues. For the last 20 years or so Juris was the guitarist in saxophonist David Liebman's group, a very fine band. A great shame he has gone. Only a year older than me. R.I.P. Vic Juris.
