Well I didn't say it had to make sense 😄 And since when did that stop Gibson from doing something 😛 There are plenty of nice Gibson DCs anyway when they decide to make them.. It would be enough to push me off the fence. The DC Pro is a bit different from Les Paul Standard DC, the body shape is different and the neck is joined at the 23 fret, the LP DC at 22nd fret. Its Sire the "Epiphone Del Rey", that the DC Pro is upgraded from, was introduced in 96 and the Del Rey most likely served as the inspiration for the Gibson Tak Matsumoto DC. Other observations, is Epiphones headstocks on the V, Firebird and Explorer have always looked the same as the Gibson versions. I like that they are rolling the edges of the boards, that will help give them a nice feel when played in a shop and many won't even realise why. I looks Gibson cleaned house on quite a few Epiphone models, the Blueshawk, Nighthawk, Bolt-on Neck guitars and Elitist didn't seem to make the cut, to name a few.. After watching a NAMM video I noticed a few guitars not listed on the web site, like the USA built Casino. cody78 Posted January 17, 2020 Share Posted January 17, 2020 I must admit, I'm a bit sad to see the normal headstock for Epi LP's and SG's go. I always liked it. Unless they changed to a Gibson one it all seems a bit pointless to me. The new headstock is an old Epi design and the clipped ear headstock was an old Epi design, so really they have just replaced one old design for another. The new headstock looks more at home on semis and hollows in my opinion. It would have been nice to at least keep an option for the old headstock. The new guitars do look nice though. Loving the sound of new head stock designs from Epiphone as this is one of my pet hates about Epiphone guitars, i have always wanted Epiphone to release a new guitar with the same headstock design as Gibson guitars, i'm not expecting that for a while but this is certainly a step in the right direction !!
