Warranty Claim? Now what?

Hello,

just wanted to give you a quick update. Gibson customer service europe contacted me.

They told me, my guitar cannot be repaired and that I will get a new one. Since they don't make the 1963 any longer, I can choose between different reissue models, guess I will go for teh 1964 but I'm not sure yet.

Did anyone play the new reissue models yet and can elaborate on the different neckprofiles? I need a c-profile which runs down all the neck, the profiles that become more of a D as you get closer to the body (like I found on most es  I played in my search) really hurt my hand.

Too bad yours can't be repaired but great they will replace it.

Tell them what Specs you like & that's what you'd like yours to be replaced with.. Ask them if they will check it out thoroughly & Set it up... Like I said earlier, in my experience, my Guitars came back perfect! They also replaced my Reissue 50th Anniv. Ltd. Edition 1961 Epiphone Casino with Tremotone. It came in perfect condition & perfect Set up... They exceeded my expectations...

Night & Day difference between Gibson & another Guitar maker an easy drive right down the road from me in So Cal....

that's great news.   I agree with Lars, ask some questions regarding your concerns on the neck profile.  The only way to know is to play one but at least they can give you some ideas to help decide.

Today I received an e-mail from the shop, stating that since gibson can't deliver new guitars right now, I'll be getting an NOS one they have lying around. Its the exact same model I had, a memphis 1963 Es 335.

Now I'm getting real nervous. I never doubted my old guitar was ****ed,  never doubted Gibson would be caring for it, my concern was always, what can I do, when I get a new guitar I just don't like as much as the old one. Its not like getting a new laptop or something.

Don't want to came across unthankful, but I told the story above, it was a long search and now I'm stuck with whatever they send me.

Express to Gibson your expectations.. I did. Both times Gibson exceeded my expectations. The Guitar they replaced mine with was flawless, sounds incredible & was Set up perfectly... 9 years later it's still perfect..  It wasn't some old Guitar they had laying around.

Your new replacement will have it's own Warranty.. I will be surprised if you have to use it though...

Seems to me that Gibson is being quite fair in sending you a NOS example of the exact same model.  Get it in your hands and assess it.

But I would ask Gibson’s warranty department in advance if you can return the NOS guitar for credit (based on your original purchase price) towards another Gibson if it doesn’t suit you for some reason (like not having the same neck profile).

Keep working with them one step at a time, and hopefully the final outcome will be a good one.

What if they didn't just happen to have the same NOS model lying around. Would they scrounge up a ran over Firebird X for you?

In 2012, I had a similar problem with a LP double-cut (returned to Nashville & not repairable).  Since that model was no longer in production, Gibson offered me any current model of a comparable value.

Comparable to when you bought it or current day price of that model?

That’s a good question!  The price I had paid for the LP, or it’s original selling price, was never discussed.  It was strictly a matter of equivalently featured instruments available in the current catalog.  I think we discussed three instruments that were in production.  They simply had to be in the same ballpark, which imho was more than fair.

Most Online Retailers are pretty good & offer 45 day no hassle Return/Exchange Policies. If you were beyond your 45 days before contacting Gibson or your Retailer it may not be likely. If you're thinking of a different model altogether it's probably not a realistic expectation. That should've been resolved during your Return/Exchange Period..

I had a nightmare experience with Fender Squier VM Jazzmasters. I went thru the Return/Exhange thing with 3 VMJM Guitars.. Over a period of a  couple months.. Each one had a major defect that was unacceptable to me... Finally, I gave up & Returned the 3rd one for full Refund.. I ended up spending more on a Fender American Vintage 65 Jazzmaster & it's been a great Guitar..

But, realistically, Time is of the essence with Returns/Exchanges.

Still, with your new Guitar comes a new Warranty should you need it..

In any case I wish you the best & hope you get your dream Guitar.

I'm awaiting the brown truck today, keep your fingers crossed.

I must say, I'm o.K. with the NOS option, actually its cool I get the exact same model, just hoping its a good one and that the store really had it in store and not on display for the last two years.

The communication felt kind of strange though, gibson customer service already gave me a list from new models to choose from. I asked about the various models regarding neck profileand time of delivery  but never heard back from them,  instead I got the E-mail from the shop stating what you already know.

Whatever, I keep you posted, thanks for your concern and input.

So, the brown truck was here, guitar is going back tomorrow, guess what? The replacement  they sent me-  besides other small issues -  has a slight twist in the neck!

Can't say more right now, speechless!

Contact them right away & tell them it has a twisted Neck too....

Do you have to deal with the Store or can you deal direct to Gibson Factory Customer Service? The latter is what I did in both my cases.

Bypass the Middle Man possibly doing subpar repair, or getting an off the Rack Used replacement & to be sure it was actually going back to Gibson Factory. Express your concern & disbelief of getting a second one with the same problem & other defects... Tell them, with all due respect, you paid perfect Money & expect a perfect Guitar...

Once again that is K rap. And people wonder why they get slagged on. I guess by now you know only a Gibson neck is twisted enough.

guys, this is one of the days I wish I never sold my trusty Les Paul, 28 years of abuse (left in trunks over night in the winter, thrown into drum sets, broke headstock three times, left in the car on hot summer days, you name it) but  zero issues, neck straight as arrow...😢

"K rap" is that a new hip hop sub genre I'm not aware of?

No but if I try to spell the actual word the filter will block it out. Cause its a bad word. Its a way of spelling it a different way and getting away with it.

I hear that,  but we can't change the past bud, I sincerely wish you all the best in getting this sorted out.  The road may have a few pot holes, but I'm hoping gibson does what's right here and quits f----ing around with this.

Gibson-Europe is a different beast when it comes to warranty issues.  Hard to know how much of this is your dealer’s fault, or the European distributor who handles warranty claims.  At this point, I’d recommend you contact a customer-service rep in Nashville.  Ask for them to intervene & assist in brokering a reasonable resolution.
