Its amazing how quickly the change has come since we have only been in lockdown a few weeks. And totally shows how much difference we could make to what we are doing to the planet if we all just made a few changes in our lives. When all this stops and life gets back to "normal" I sadly think people will just go straight back to their old habits.

We can always hope though 🙂

I've been stuck at home every day and not going out seems like a few weeks now. It hit in the 70's yesterday so I was talking to the wife about what she thought if I took our dog for a walk at the lake near us. She commented just don't get close to people so I said, If it's crowded there I'll just come back.  I drove over to the lake,  Just a few blocks away, and the parking lots were full. People walking and talking together, Bicyclist's on the trails, Dogs running loose everywhere, Lots of kids playing in large groups, Women pushing baby strollers around, No 6 foot rule seemed to apply there. If someone was sick of this virus, there's a ton of people to spread it around! Then on the way there and back, the neighborhoods were the same with everyone out running around. Lots of traffic, People going somewhere?  Most places all closed. Yeah, Seems it's not going to take that long to wait before things get back to normal? It's already happening while people are spreading this virus? They had 9 more cases here a few days ago I thought I heard.

On the plus side. Its quieter. Yes, I appreciate quiet. I exercise outdoors early in the morning. Easy for a chronic insomniac. Walking the hills at 5am or 6 am before breakfast.

Recently my cousin in Oz posted up a quote from an Asian (doctor?) telling us that we were all privileged to self isolate etc and that the poverty stricken cannot. This had occurred to me also, but this post seemed to contain some poorly concealed resentment and bile. hmmm...

I had an online karate session this morning. It wasnt perfect but it was good. Nice to see my mates and sensies again and share a workout.

I also had a pleasant skype session with my girlfriend this afternoon. Its difficult for us to be apart. We are just trying to minimize risk and cant expect anything else at present. She also told me I had to lose my straw hat and get a baseball hat instead. That felt a bit harsh! So I tried on a succession of crazy hats I had to show how much worse it could be. The sombrero came out, the buster keaton pork pie, the xmas turkey hat etc. but I still have to lose the straw hat apparently.

I can see it now:

M-E: Hi Honey, I really miss you. This shelter at home quarantine stuff is really pretty difficult!

Girlfriend: Gotta lose the hat. Don't care if no one else can see you. Use a baseball hat. Much cooler.

M-E: Really!? I like this hat, plus it is SO comfortable!

Girlfriend: Lose it. It's pathetic.

M-E: Come on, It's my fav plus you've seen it before haven't you? Ok what about these. Here's my Buster Keaton pork pie!

Girlfriend: Nope none of them.  The straw hat especially. You look like a Yokel from  the Midland Boonies.

M-E: OK OK. I just won't wear it for our next skype session.

Don't tell her it's a Buster Keaton pork pie.  Tell her it's a Lester Young pork pie.  Nobody was ever cooler than Lester Young.

I see the positive in some things.   Lots of people finally realize that they don’t need celebrities.  They need the working-class guy/gal.  It’s great to have family time, although for a lot of parents the situation makes it very stressful.   They enjoy being home, but the worry about their jobs can be overwhelming. I think people have come-together, although there are still plenty of buttholes.  I believe there is a human brotherhood in which we realize we’re all in this together.  However, once this is over with, things will return to the way they were.  Just look at our politics.  This catastrophe hasn’t changed anything.  Besides the elites who control everything are not doing without and coming-together like the rest of us.   They feed the hatred to the media, which they control.   And they don’t stand in long lines or wonder if they’ll be able to pay the rent.  They don’t risk being a victim of crime as the rest of us do.  Perhaps you and I are in this together, but they are not “you and I.”  .... And I’m not crying about someone who has more than me——my wife and I are in okay shape.  We can ride this out, but if the bottom falls-out of our economy, the society won’t be far behind and the people who still have to work to survive are going to be in horrible shape....and they’re the ones that keep our society fueled and running.  People say “we’ll come out of this stronger.”  Maybe after we fully recover 25-30 years down the road.  Until then, we’re going to suffer.  I just don’t see a lot of good that will come out of this.  Brotherly Love is a nice thing to strive for, but you know as well as I do that it’s a dream and what we’re in is reality.   ..Thank God (if there is one) for technology.  At least we can see and talk to our grandkids, etc.  Technology is what makes it possible to still function.  But, what do we do if the internet goes out?  Are we truly capable of surviving if all of our logistics and communications are brought to a halt?  Look how we communicate here!  Practically everything we now do in our lives is in one way or another linked to the internet.  .....What really scares me is how quickly this happened.  In two days,  they had literally total control of our lives: where we can go, what we can do.  And it’s been done all the way around the world.  And they didn’t need an army.  This came “out of the blue” and brought the world to its knees almost immediately and it’s mortality rate is shrinking each day.  Yes, it’s serious, but i just don’t see millions upon millions dying.  .........Anyway, I’ve at least written a couple of songs.  Can’t wait to get back to some kind of “normal.”  Can’t wait to start playing my gigs again.  That will mean I’m seeing all the family again.  ....Meanwhile, let’s hope the internet stays-up.  Most of us might be too old to re-learn how to write letters again.👍👍

There really isn't anything positive or good to come of this, not here.  Two of our places to play have already said they won't be reopening.  Two of the bigger casinos were in deeps hit before this, don't know how they'll get out of it.  Houses were just about to be a few percent up for the first time in easily 12, 15 years.  Forget it.  The economy here has been on the edge for decades and it just got a whole lot not good at all.

When this is over we won't be back stronger than ever, not here.

We'll there is some good news,  so far the press has only report male and female catching  Covid19

So the other 57 genders have nothing to worry about

I'm surprisingly live-and-let-live on the subject (I actively try to be more damn-kids-get-off-my-lawn). If you're a guy who considers yourself a lesbian squirrel, then by God, you keep reaching for that acorn. You only have so much time.

I read somewhere that TP was first, but now people are hoarding alcohol.

I guess the positive there is that it makes me laugh. So far, no one's even thought of hoarding, I dunno, food and water?

The local grocery store was out of water for  more than 2 weeks.  A lot of food gone too.

Yeah it was like that for the first few weeks here too..  All fresh fruit and veg, pasta, flour, bread, any tinned food, milk and dairy..

I have never seen anything like it....  Of course its all clamed down a bit now.. But yeah it was pretty nuts.

Solitary drinking is now considered a virtue, not a sin.

Indeed. I am sure, since we got forced into the quarantine, our wine makers are doing way better. At least, I am doing my best for them.

Bence.

I do miss having band rehearsal every 2 or 3 weeks, and that my daughter can't come from interstate (this is in Australia) and visit for her birthday. And of course retirement has drifted away somewhat financially...but generally things are pretty fine here and many upsides in terms of getting out and doing yard jobs and hanging out with family, and I seem to like working from home. Our supermarkets are doing ok and working hard to serve people, fuel is open, alcohol shops open, parks are open...though the pub is shut.  So a mixed bag but so long as it's months rather than years there are positives and negatives here.

...noting that this is country life, I'm sure life  in the cities may be quite fraught - maybe, just maybe, we might see a bit of 'getting back to the garden' and the younger generation might see the beauty of simpler living in the country rather than just looking to run to the cities?

Many stores out of TP, bottled water, cereal, and other things.  I’m just out of patience.  We go through all this crap, then they tell that the pandemic models they used to shut-down the world were wrong.  I’m just ready for it to end, so I can savor my returning freedom.  Then, I’ll be looking for payback.  Until then, I’ll hang-around with the old lady, play some guitar, and hide in my model train world.

Here to, Deb hits it now right when they open and they check drivers license for if you are a senior. Seniors get in first and they only allow 50 to get in at a time. When the shelves are wiped out, that's it for the day. They restock them at night.
