Would you exchange??? (a fender ja-90 for a gibson special faded doublecut)

Hey guys... at last! I got to play the ja-90 through an amplifier (and actually take a closer look to her).

I played at a friend's house and the guitar stayed there (there's a reason), I hope nothing happens to her[-o<

I have to say, I am a little disapointed, my friend has one of those semihollow-hollow epis with p90s (that I think are epi p90s or generic... either of which should be sh-t compared to seymour duncans...) and that guitar sounded better than the (korean) fender... the fender looks great, sounds great unplugged but it didnt sound as I expected plugged to an amp.

So I left her there and brought home a double cut special faded (in black) that my friend has and never uses; he told me he is willing to exchange them (with an extra $ from my side), he says he will "upgrade" the ja-90s pickups and then the guitar will be supperb... I'm not sure but I think that's quite a long shot...

I took his doublecut and plugged it to my ac30... sounds great (maybe I'm a little biassed towards gibson products), but the special doublecut really sounds different than my tele and my paul that are my main guitars right now; different but great (the ja90 sounds disturbingly close to the sound of the middle position of the les paul).

Would you exchange them? I am really considering it.

The downside is that his double cut is black... and I have been GASsing for a TV yellow...

Which one?

The ja-90 I dont have pics of, and cant seem to find "real" pics on the net... (maybe it's a little too new of a produt)

The other one I think I can get pics on the net... or take some tomorrow.

Hey Homz... while I like your new sig, I think some of the members will be all over you for it (you know how they are... they sport guns but get offended at an old lady's finger...)

How's the band going?

If the JA-90 is that badass red Tele you have' date=' then no way would I trade it for the DC.

Looks great... sounds great unplugged... but I want to use her with an amp... (maybe I was expecting a little too much) and well... there's this other thing that might be wat is maing me turn away from her... but I am ashamed to tell =P~

Just commenting on the Epiphone P90s that come on Casinos. I am telling you, they are probably the best pickups on any Epiphone guitar overall, they're hotter than other P90s. Actually I am sure that's the difference I bet the P90s on that Tele are not as hot. (just guessing though).

I think that might be the explanation... those p90s sounded really weak, specially compared to those in the epi... and of course I expectded a lot more of them after learning p90 had more output and (IMO) a better range than single coils and humbuckers... I was expecting the perfect blend of the 2 but didnt get that... the epi's p90s did show the best of both worlds...

I just never could get into the guitar.

That's exactly what I fear, that I will never get too much into her... all my guitars have come to me (those are the ones I end selling) or I have chosen them because of tone, playability and looks... this one didnt come to me... I liked the specs and looks... but playing her I feel like she will never grow on me, she is a good guitar but not great sounding when amplified.

She does have a set neck, with a weird angled joint.

JA90 all the way. (Why do i never hear of the JA90 anywhere outside the fourm' date=' is it a custom?)

It's a signature model that (I dont know why) fender makes in korea... (signature for jim or jimmy or james or whoever atkins of a band called jimy eat world... that I never heard about until I found that guitar).

I will ad one thing... I first played one of these (in black) a while ago and that one sounded really nice through an amp... maybe it was moded?

Yea, that's what I think of the P90s on the Casino, they are just the perfect blend. Still, some replace the pickups on their Casinos. I would not know why.

One think about the LP Jr DC is that it is a smaller guitar and you are a tall guy. Keep that in mind.

I saw an Asian kid rock out with one of those LP Jrs here in Nashville, he was filling in for the usual guitar player for a solo artist (that plays a Tele) and the LP Jr guitar sounded great, simply fantastic tone. It added that rocking tone to the songs without being too much.

Thunder,

If I'm not mistaken, Fender was making a TC-90 a few years ago that had P-90s in it.

In many of the reviews I read the owner switched out the stock 90s for something hotter from another company.

I think you have a good guitar, but you might consider changing out the pups for something a little hotter.

I didn't know that... will look for that one in google and see what I can find...

Anyway, the thing about changing pickups is... that guitar is at the top of the cost I am willing to pay for a korean guitar... so, upgrading the pickups would take her to made in Japan or USA made guitar, and I would be more confortable with a japanese or american guitar for that price...

Personally (and I'm not a good guitarist, according to Homz), if you aren't in love with the guitar, don't trade. You'll just end up regretting it later. Homz was ready to go out and buy some other guitar and I knew if he did it, I'd never hear the end of the "I wish I had a Gibson" refrain. If it doesn't "speak" to you, then it's not the right instrument for you. =P~

But then....what do I know.....?
