We aren't natural to this planet are we? Did another planet that was dying (Mars?) come here and splice their DNA with Neanderthals? I think 3) is probably the simplest and most logical. We may have originated out of Africa, but with massive cross-species breeding with other upright walking hominids as we made several migrations north.
