snydersong
I recently ordered a Hummingbird Modern Mahogany Cherry burst from one of the major online musical instrument companies. When it arrived it looked exactly like what I ordered, but the label inside says 'Songwriter Modern Mahogany '. Was I sent the wrong guitar, was it mislabeled, or has this instrument been moved from the Hummingbird line to the Songwriter line? (There were three stickers on the box, two said songwriter and one said hummingbird. My original receipt said hummingbird but the online version said songwriter. ??? Love the guitar, but would like determine if I should contact the seller, if I was maybe sent the wrong instrument.
ALD323
The lable inside the sound hole should say either Hummingbird..or Songwriter. What is written there..is what you have!
Paul14
Contact the seller.
slimt
Yup If you ordered a Hummingbird. The label should read that. Did you know that the Songwriter guitars were designed from Rens, Ferguson guitars?
Salfromchatham
I am pretty sure those two are the same guitar - 2019 vs 2020 In 2020 we have this: https://www.gibson.com/Guitar/ACC8HE801/Songwriter-Modern-EC-Mahogany/Light-Cherry-Sunburst In 2019 we have this: http://legacy.gibson.com/Products/Acoustic-Instruments/2019/Hummingbird-Mahogany-Avant-Garde-2019.aspx Same guitar - name change - you got a 2020 I imagine...

I Didnt think to compare. Wow. Friggen Gibson. I would imagine there was a marketing tactic there. What a shame.
CAMELEYE
It really doesn't look like the Songwriter body is the same shape as a Hummingbird body.

Good work digging up that legacy listing on the 2019, Sal. As you say, pretty sure the same guitar. . . as in, the identical photo used in 2019 HB Mah Av Grde/2020 Songwrite Mod EC . 2 hours ago, slimt said: I Didnt think to compare. Wow. Friggen Gibson. Thankful they made the change. 1 hour ago, CAMELEYE said: It really doesn't look like the Songwriter body is the same shape as a Hummingbird body. True. Songwriter seemed a bit squat in the lower bout, and the upper bout looked to have a different shape and contour down to the waist. OP Mr Snyder- if you bought this as new old stock (do the 1st and 4th in the serial # show a 1 and a 9, as in 2019?) from GC, for example, no biggie. . . you bought what was in the picture. Just be happy you've got one of the last of that design that pays homage to the iconic Hummingbird. Congrats/enjoy/welcome. snydersong
Thanks for all of the great information, everyone. I think maybe Sal is onto something - looks like it morphed from a Hummingbird in 2019 to a Songwriter in 2020. Nice instrument in any case! Thanks again! 75 Hummingbird
First and fifth number in the serial number are the year of the guitar . Smells like more of Gibsons change the name game .

Yes, change the name, but this time, it's good to make the distinction.
snydersong
Just to put closure on this thread, I emailed Gibson customer service and found out that, as per salfromchatham, the guitar previously known as the Hummingbird Modern Mahogany is now the Songwriter Modern Mahogany. Same instrument, new name. Maybe would've been nice of the dealer to mention that detail when I ordered the guitar. So no need to return it, can enjoy playing it and looking at that nice Heritage Cherry Burst finish! Thanks to all for the feedback & good call Sal!
