Traded for 3500 value

I'm no expert on cases either.

I see. Hope it s the one. I've owned several Gibson's but, only owned one old one.  A '57 Gibson ES-225TD. Absolutely awful. Vintage does not always mean good, it can, but, that wasn't.

Case looks like a late '60's early '70's.  Certainly not from the '50s.

I'm not sure  I've seen one from the 50s that actually had the Gibson logo on the outside, and no manufacturer badge on the inside.

Looks like a '70s case to these eyes. Not being a huge fan of that era guitar, can't say much about the cases. Nice guitar! Pretty case! No money changed hands..gotta love that!!

I did a little googling and I agree. Looks like late 70’s or early ‘80’s

You were right not to offer anything extra for it. I wonder if the seller knew it was not what he said it was, or if he was just ignorant about what he had?

Five minutes on the google machine would have told him it was not an early 1950s Lifton case, much less a case worth $1800.

Let the buyer beware.

I am not saying what this means for this discussion, but there is an excellent chance this is the real thing.

It certainly appears to have the appropriate number of miles on it.
