That’s not the Royal Tan... They are lighter in color & have Nickel Chrome Dogear Covers....

Good catch, this is the information the Chuck Levins site posted. I posted this information because it was the first store I have seen advertising the USA Casino in stock ready to ship. So  they are advertising a Royal Tan but the picks show a Vintage Sunburst..

Wonder why they showed that one? They’re sharp enough to know the difference.. And there are Pics of Royal Tan.... Which is what I have on Order...

You would need to contact them to solve the mystery.. 🙂

Obvious, screw up.... Just hope no one looks at that or buys it & expects Royal Tan to look like that Guitar...

Well today it looks like Reverb has the Vintage Burst is in stock from 2 different venders,

https://reverb.com/item/40076844-epiphone-casino-usa-collection-electric-guitar-vintage-sunburst

Oh heres a Royal Tan in stock from an additional vender.

https://reverb.com/item/40080591-epiphone-casino-usa-collection-royal-tan

In addition lots off pre-orders..

I'm guessing that smaller shops that didn't have a lot of backorders are posting first and the larger shops may have to fill their waiting lists.

  • 2 weeks later...

I called Gibson/Epiphone as well about when the USA Casino would ship (I have one on order at Sweetwater) and receive the weirdest reply, "We don't know, your dealer would know..."  Except my guy at Sweetwater doesn't know either.  How can the factory not know when a guitar they make will ship? And how can they slough it off on the dealer who is waiting for the factory to tell them?  It's like, "Even though I work for Gibson/Epiphone I can't tell you when our product(s) ship.  Only the dealer can tell you."  And then from the dealer you get, "I can't tell you when the guitar will ship because the factory won't tell us."  What?  Makes no sense.  I thought this new guy at Gibson, what's his name, Curly or something, was going to turn the company around?  I wonder if I called him if he would know when the Casino will ship?  Someone there has to know, right?

I see that GC has the Royal Tan available now, but the other one is still a "pre-order."  But they only need 1 "in stock" for this, which may actually be the case!  I think a lot of people are waiting to see these in stores which I don't honestly think will happen all that much, if at all, any time soon.

An earlier post in this thread said there was a sunburst one in stock somewhere already so it can't be a color thing, they might just be running these in very small batches once in a while due to lower than expected demand?

I ordered mine through the local shop who, though technically an Epiphone dealer, don't really carry all that many of them in-store.  And they refuse to carry Gibson at all!  I would have thought the bigger chains would have been "first" on the "list" but maybe its first come, first serve too.  I ordered mine in December.

I’ve had a Royal Tan on order from Sweetwater for more than a year.. But, now, with all the negative out there regarding how incorrect they are I’m beginning to wonder? I’m waiting to hear from Epiphone as to why just about every spec on these Guitars are inconsistent with any vintage Casino? Including the backwards Inlays? The list is long & is posted on many Forums including this one....

They ship in very low numbers, and Gibson is not in the business of telling random people when they are shipping guitars to a dealer. They probably don't know - they have a list of orders, and when something is available, they ship it to the next store on the list.

My dealer asked about the inlays. The response from the rep is that the specs aren't based on any particular vintage example, and it is not intended to be a reissue. He didn't have an answer about the inlays, though.

Other than the inlays, what  is "incorrect," aisde from the fact that they use a modern bridge and tuners instead of vintage-accurate models (since, again, this isn't a reissue)?

I got my Royal Tan last week. I've barely had time to play it, but it's a great guitar. Would I rather the inlays face the right direction? Probably. It has no impact on playing, though, and is so much better than I expected compared to my Peerless model.

I would absolutely expect it to be miles apart better than the the Peerless & IBJL’s...

I’m curious how it compares to the Terada built Casino’s.. Those are incredibly good Guitars.. And very accurate Vintage Reissues..

I’ve had mine on order for over a year. Im not sure what I’m going to do now?

Honestly, I think I'm 51%/49% in favor fo the ES-330.  To me it sounds a bit "fuller" and were I listening blind to the video would have no problem identifying which one was the Casino (has a bit more high freq.)

Given that the electronics, body shape / construction are the same, the only differences will come down to poly vs. nitro and plastic vs. metal pickup covers.  Who knows what strings were on each model too...  How much would that affect the sound?  Also, I have no idea how (or where) wood is sourced in Asia, nor do I know which species of wood are used in construction.

Terada makes fabulous guitars -my Japanese Gretsch's best my American ones in every measurable way (save for "vintage beater coolness"), but I would go with a new USA made Casino over one of theirs every time.

Of course, my reason for buying a US model was more sentimental (my first guitar was a cheap-o Epi LP that I still have) than wanting a re-issue, so the vintage "correctness" of it wasn't important to me.  And I chose Royal Tan because it wasn't a color you couldn't get in Korean or Chinese models.  Lastly, despite having a disproportionate number of guitars that are associated with George Harrison, the Beatles association didn't factor into it either.

If my order was a year old, I'd be pissed too.  The only thing I can imagine is that Gibson gave a certain number of guitars to each company and that a greater number of pre-orders were put through Sweetwater than any of the other retailers.   I'm going through a similarly painful process on a Guild acoustic I have on order (it won't be here until November at the earliest!)

I have 3 Casino’s.. A 50th Anniv 1961 Reissue with Tremotone with black Plastic Dogear Covers. My Peerless with Bigsby & John Lennon Revolution  have Chrome Nickel Covers...  To my ears the 2 with Nickel Chrome Covers sound brighter...

Yesterday I went to the Epiphone site and put a Royal Tan Casino in the Cart, when I clicked on it to review the page went into time out and kept spinning. I came back later and the Casino still showed being available but the Cart was at zero. I checked this morning and the Cart showed 1 and the page showed more available. Anyway, I was doing this as a test, so I cleared the basket and the site still shows "Add To Cart" for both models.

Musiciansfriend has a 20% off Coupon right now.. You should call them & ask if they’ll do that deal.. It’s worth it even if you have to do an Order & wait a bit....
