nifnof70 Posted June 19, 2020 Posted June 19, 2020 (edited) Greetings! I recently picked up a VERY used faded SG on Craigslist so I figured it's time to hop on here and learn more about it. I've started playing guitar after joining the Air Force in "88 and have played on and off in bands the last 30 years. Like many on here I've had my share of multiple guitars (some I should have held on to) and during this pandemic have bought three. So back to the SG: It's my first one and I have to say it's grown on me and for now favor it over the my LP and Strats--I have plans for it so need to post some "before" pics soon. And finally, I enjoy these forums because they avoid discussion on non-sensical topics like politics.....a nice release from reality! 2005 Gibson SG Faded 1992 Fender Stratocaster American Standard Epiphone LP Standard Epiphone 335 Standard Epiphone Special II Seagull Entourage Acoustic Frankenstrat Edited June 19, 2020 by nifnof70 add guitars Quote
tx-ogre Posted June 19, 2020 Posted June 19, 2020 Welcome aboard. Nice collection you have there. The SG Faded Special is a great guitar. When I finally decided to seriously take up guitar in 2003, my choice of guitars was the Gibson LP Faded Special and the SG Faded Special. I found several new LPs locally, but not an SG to be found and the guitar shops didn’t know when they would receive any in stock. So I went ahead and purchased a 2002 LP Faded Special new. I still own it and play it regularly. Over the years, I have been had the good fortune to be able to purchase two Gibson SGs: a 2004 SG Supreme and a ‘67 SG Special (2007 GOW) with P-90s. I still own both and play them regularly. Enjoy your stay. Quote

You also have an interesting array of guitars--A LP or SG equipped guitar with P-90's is on my bucket list. Quote

At the time, I had four humbucker-equipped Gibson’s and was looking at either a Tele or Strat for a different tone. However, the guitar shop had the ‘67 SG Special Re-Issue that had recently arrived hanging on the wall. After playing it, I was sold on the P-90s. I do plan to add a P-90-equipped LP to go with my two humbucker-equipped LPs. Quote
Retired Posted June 21, 2020 Posted June 21, 2020 Welcome to the forum Nifnof. Good to have you here. Yes, as mentioned you have a nice collection. I play my Casino mostly with P-90's. They are nice. Even unplugged it sounds like an acoustic. I have a custom Riviera P93 coming in the mail. Thought it might have arrived this week so still waiting. Also, great on your service, Our son spent 6 years in the Navy. Quote
