First take a precautionary step to check if any frets have lifted, there's some youtube content that can help explain that. It's pretty easy to clean up a few high spots. Plekking levels and evens them, corrects them in relation to each other, it's a fancy machine for what was once done by hand. It isn't for lowering strings.
