A$H Posted October 10, 2020 Posted October 10, 2020 So I did a thing... Recently, I came across this Iguana Burst SJ-200 at a ridiculously high price. I financed it at 0%. To my knowledge, it was the very last remaining model sold by any big box retailer. They cannot be found anywhere else, unless you look on eBay and buy from either Japan or Korea. How can I find out definitively whether or not it’s the last production model? I have the 2018 model, with a truss rod cover that says “Custom,” but other images show a truss cover that says, “Limited.” I don’t believe they are different guitars. But perhaps they are in fact different? If anyone has knowledge about this model, please drop it in the comments! I would like to find out if my SJ-200 is the last model produced, and whether or not there's a difference between mine that displays a "Custom" truss cover, vs. others I see online, like on this official legacy spec sheet that dons a "Limited" truss cover. http://legacy.gibson.com/Products/Acoustic-Instruments/2018/SJ-200-Iguana-Burst.aspx I have been obsessed with the SJ-200 since the 90s when I saw James Iha of the Smashing Pumpkins pictured in a one-page photo spread with what I remember to be a black jumbo Gibson acoustic guitar with a white 3-point country & western-style pickguard. I haven’t been able to find that photo since, but I would love to find it and will pay someone $10 (negotiable) by PayPal to whoever finds it. Must include the body of the guitar in addition to the headstock and neck. Quote
slimt Posted October 10, 2020 Posted October 10, 2020 Gibson has come up with some pretty neat looking colors. That being one. Very Nice. Quote
A$H Posted October 10, 2020 Author Posted October 10, 2020 Thanks, dude! Reminds me of an unripened banana or plantain. Absolutely head-turning! Quote
zombywoof Posted October 11, 2020 Posted October 11, 2020 Sorry to say, you may never be able to answer your question. As this is a typical Gibson limited edition in that it is a standard production guitar with a very non-standard finish, the total number built could have been a result of something as simple as the amount of that color lacquer they had on hand. I guess you could try contacting Gibson Customer Service to see if that have any info on production numbers and where your guitar would have stood in that total. Anyway, good luck with it. And enjoy! Thanks! I contacted Gibson Acoustic via official support web form! They have been responsive on other matters, though they sometimes do not have records or choose to not disclose production number info, which was the case on my Gibson ES-Les Paul Limited Run 3-Pickup Black Beauty VOS Quote
zombywoof Posted October 11, 2020 Posted October 11, 2020 A quick question. Does your guitar have a "Gibson Custom" label on the back. I gather this would identify the guitar as a limited edition but not a Custom Shop guitar. Depending on how Gibson keeps its logs this might make it tougher to single out. Regarding the "Custom" TRC, perhaps somebody at Gibson screwed up and put the wrong TRC on the guitar or as the guitar is two years old the original could have been replaced. Between these and the Anaconda burst though Gibson did have a whole reptilian theme going on. Quote
