Hello Suzukiscottie! Here's another Blue Teal, being on sale for very long time now: http://www.gitarshop.hu/?tart=hirdetes&id=39240&lang=hu. 175.000 HUF = 875 USD. Too bad the BASF finish is flaking off. Cheers... Bence

CHeers

It looks like that one has been doing some serious rocking! I guess that is what they were made for though.

Mine is almost like new, with only a small amount of buckle-rash on the back. Home use only.

I was seriously thinking about buying this guitar, even with this flaking issue. If I could purchase the right BASF paint - I would refinish it. My only concern here is the bridge. Yours seems to have a different bridge, wondering which is the stock one.

Bridge looks the same to me. Mine is unmodified other than the addition of straplocks.

Very Late to the Party. I have a Les Paul Studio Faded Cherry. She's a sexy Beast, and pics will follow, But I'm playing around with idea of a few mods that forum might be able to help give an opinion on:

'

1) Changing the Burstbucker Pros to '57 Classics (Preference? Good/Bad points?)

2) Replacing the Speed knobs with black and/or red dice (Anyone have any experience installing dice tuning knobs? Preference?)

3) Getting a design wood burned into the guitar near the bottom to match the black woodgrain against the red of the guitar. (Is that even possible? Would it compromise the guitar in any way?)

Thanks [thumbup]

I recently got a 2011 Studio Limited (Classic 60's). It's one bad-bad blue beauty. Oh those shades of blue... Anyway, a few things: the natural grain is a bit more visible than in Gibby's pictures (see my pics below). Also, the dark blue gradient might be lightened by my camera because its flash has the intensity of 1000 suns (it really does).

^^ Any permanent modification to the guitar will compromise the value of the guitar.

Tonal wise, the design will not affect the LP.

In my experience if not done by a professional, I can think of a few things that ADD value to a guitar

# Add a mod that many want (Peter Green eg)

# Copy a model in higher demand by changing parts

# Adding Gold Hardware instead of Nickel Stock.

I don't see how you could burn into the wood without destroying the finish. It would require a refin anyway to do something like that, unless there is a way to do it to the finish that I have personally never seen.

I can't comment on the differences between the BB pro's and the '57 classics, having never owned either one. But, my thought is that the when ever a "new" pickup comes out they are sometimes thought to be better, but it isn't always the case. Sometimes, it is just different. Perhaps, if you could elaborate on what you want to change about it, you might get some suggestions.

I don't think anyone is trying to deter you from personalizing your guitar. Lots of us do it. But the point is, just in case, mods that are permanent tend to devalue a guitar.

If you are doing any mods, whether changing parts for looks or adding tremolos or changing pickups, you should do it for YOU. The money you spend is never going to add to what you could sell it for. In some cases, like things that aren't a stock item or just a strange mod that is rarely done, it will detract when selling because it will be seen as something to change back.

But, you shouldn't let that stop you-just something to be aware of.

*If you are on the other end and buying, if it seems a model was changed to be a "signature" model or something it did not leave the factory as, you should be suspicious.

#1} I have Les Pauls with both pickup types.....You may want to research both types to get a full blown understanding on both types....

My preference are the '57 classics....There are also the '57 classic plus pickups; the same, just slightly hotter....The price of Gibby 57s

rise and fall, a lot.....I buy them when they are around US 99.00 each.......As I can, I also put them in almost all my Les Paul guitars......

I do keep some LPs with various Burstbuckers though, because they are different than 57s.......

#2} Dice Knobs; I simply took regular dice, drilled the right size holes, and put them on a Strat...(666, as my name is Damian)....

#3} I'm all for modding, cutting, etc etc....Just know what you are doing.......Just remember that MOST studios are chambered,

so, don't be buring through the top.......

Could you use a blowtorch on the pups to make them hotter?

Coming on Wednesday 9/21: 2010 Gibson Les Paul Studio Flood Issue, Blue Swirl

We had a fire on August 2nd and I lost 2 guitars, most of my other gear and pretty much everything else too. Luckily, me, my wife and the cats were all unhurt. The blue swirl that's coming next week is a replacement for the two I lost. One was a studio, one was a standard and getting an upper tier studio ($1549) was a compromise between what I lost and all the other stuff that we have to replace. I KNOW I'm going to be happy with it when I open the case! This will be my 4th Gibson. The unmentioned 3rd was a '57 Black Beauty Reissue that got split up in my last divorce...lol. Photos coming on the 21st!

I think that unless you play just straight clean, the pickup thing is in the mind. If you use effects it negates the pickup.

Most amps will adjust to make the difference. I just plug in and play. It's in the fingers.

Do you think you could make EVH's Frankenstein strat sound like him? No chance.

It came with the chip crooked? Just curious.

3 more days and my blue swirl will be here! I'm chillin in an Oklahoma casino huffing into a paper bag cuz I'm so anxious to see it! -Rod-

I bought it used, but barely touched. The switch was actually upside down when I got it. Yes, that led to some head scratching for a few minutes. The nut on the switch was very loose. I must have rotated the chip some while tightening and didn't notice. [unsure]
