I'm not putting what ever that is in my mouth ever. I'll tear up a plate of Swedish Meatballs though, just not the ones from Ikea.

My father was adopted by a Swedish couple (hence the Scandinavian surname Englund, but the vast majority of my ancestors came over from England). He was raised with a lot of traditional Swedish dishes.  My mother made lutefisk a few times and I do remember eating it and not minding it. Seems like it was some kind of whitefish in a creamy sauce? It's been 50 years probably.

Must be some tasty stuff if you have had it once in 50 years.

All I know is that after giving up caffeine I have had no more episodes of vertigo.  And I was only drinking one or two cups of coffee per day before abstaining.

Caffeine does not cause vertigo.

There is nothing funny about vertigo at all.

vertigo can lead to major depression and suicide. I know.

I believe that, if you had to go through life where this happens a lot you would be depressed and suicidal. I don't know how you manage to get through a lifetime of it.

You need to go to the Hostfest in Minot North Dakota, they have a neat festival every year except this year, got every Scandinavian food you can think of and lots of entertainment too. I'm not Scandinavian but my wife and I go to it a lot for the concerts and eats.

The ENT diagnosis was Meniere's disease,, but one test was inconclusive,  when he placed the large tuning fork on my forehead the vibration was felt equally in both ears.  So he suggested eliminating caffeine,  unless you have a better treatment I'll stick with him, he has been an ENT since 1965, he is in his 80s , and looks like 50,

Lutefisk

Is that the fish soup stuff?  My grandparents would be having that stuff on Christmas Eve and it smells horrible.  No wonder Swedes are all skinny!

And remember that if you have Swedish or Native American ancestry, you may have extra root canals in your teeth, so tell your endodontist, lol.

Wow....I have not been on here 8n a long time and just this week I had an issue with bppv as well.

It happens only on my left side in bed or when I am laying down every now and then.

Maybe like 3 times the past 4 or 5 years.

Goes in about 4 days without any of the exercises. However....this time it was so severe I took and did the exercise where you are on your knees in the floor.

It worked on the first try and I have not had an issue since.

Anyways...it is a bizarre thing and I hate it!!

But you digress........

I had my first bout of Vertigo about 15 or 20 years ago, (it happened on Boxing Day). I awakened from a nap to find the world spinning!

This lasted about a week and the only " relief" I got was from lying completely still with my eyes closed.

It finally settled down so that the spinning sensation only started when I would lie down face up. The spinning would start for about 30 seconds and then slowly stop. Additionally, I always felt "tipsy", as if I had consumed a few glasses of alcohol, and was (and still am to this day) very prone to easily losing my balance).

I tried Acupuncture without success, and visited a number of doctors, including one who tried the Brandt Exercises on me , and he was surprised when I felt no improvement in the symptoms. I also had an MRI to rule out a brain tumor, and was tested at the "Dizzy Clinic" at a hospital here in Toronto. There it was determined that my Vertigo likely resulted from an Inner Ear infection in my right ear, which started with a cold or 'flu, and that I have a permanent 30% loss of balance function in my Semi-Circular Canals in the right ear.

There is some very risky surgery available to try and stop the spinning, but my symptoms were not severe enough to be considered for it.

It was impossible for me to play hockey (I'm a goalie and literally couldn't even move around without falling) and my wife suggested that I stop playing.

An ear, nose and throat specialist disagreed saying that by playing, my brain would re-learn some of my lost balance function, so I persevered, and after about a year was back playing, (although I never regained balance to the former level).

I still feel "tipsy" all the time, and notice that it does get worse when the barometric pressure changes. However, now only very rarely do I get the short periods of spinning.

A sister in law of mine dealt with vertigo for years.  Usually she just rides it out.  And there's no telling what might bring it on.She's also diabetic(like all her sisters are/were) and that plus stress I feel, is what brings a lot of it on.  And she let's WAY too much piddling sh!t stress her out.

Cherry has a bout of vertigo right now & has taken to her bed. She was coming over to visit (its my birthday today, so that will have to keep). I'm always a bit worried when she has an attack.

It could have been worse, we returned on Friday from a 4 night break at a hotel and had a great time. It could've happened then.

She has avoided coffee ever since she was advised to by the doctor. What were not sure of is if it is because of the caffeine content or something else in the coffee.

That is probably what I should do then. I do too much caffeine and it also gives me the heart burn I think? But Vertigo is worse.

What do you have to lose?  If it helps you that's great! If it doesn't,  no harm done.

Hopefully you'll get relief.

I've been doing the exercises everyday and thus far no dizzy spells.

I have profound sympathy for anyone who suffers from vertigo. Until you experience it,you have no clue how bad it is. Hope no one experiences it.

It can get worse than vertigo, When I had the Brain Tumor, My head spun around and around like a drunken bum, I puked up, couldn't focus on anything, Way worse than my vertigo issues. Believe me,You never want to go through that.

Thanks Jaxson. And I think Caffein is addictive too isn't it?

I took a litre flask of strong java to work every day for 13 years.  I ended up with such serious heart palpitations that I was diagnosed with paroxsysmal atrial fibrillation, which is medical jargon for an irregular heartbeat which happens occasionally and unexpectedly.  It was terrifying - my heart would suddenly start jerking - I could feel it - and when I went to the doc, the look on his face was "uh-oh".  I had an echocardiogram and the heart specialist explained about the electrical impulses which make your heart beat, prescribed me some pills and told me to quit cigarettes immediately (I had cut right down over the previous decade but after this I stopped).  I got made redundant at work and they couldn't wait for me to leave - PILON (Pay In Lieu Of Notice) so I left at once instead of working for a further 3 months like everyone else who got let go.

Anyway -  it was the coffee doing it!  I stopped having coffee completely and for a fortnight I had very painful kidneys - I thought I must have permanently damaged them. But they're ok now.  One single cup of coffee per day and not the strong stuff either!  I still have the heart pills just in case but my heart is regular now nearly all the time.   A big stress could set it off though.
