JO'C Posted January 27, 2021 Share Posted January 27, 2021 I'm by no means an expert but... I had a 1997 Custom Shop Les Paul Elegant and Gibson confirmed that there were no COA's issued that year. I had a 2000 Custom Shop LP that did have a COA. So maybe 1998 did not either. Gibson customer service is helpful but you'll need to email pics of the front and back of the headstock along with the serial number to get them to be responsive.
