What I got so far is that these Epi guitars were made as entry level guitars in 1979/80. According to http://www.epiphonewiki.org/index/Epi-Series_Acoustics.php#D-16. this guitar has Solid woods all around, but I find it hard to trust this information. I bought it new sometime around 1976, and I'm not mistaken because I had this guitar before I met my future wife in early 1978, we got married in 1979 so what gives?
