Just wiped it over with Virtuoso Polish, not the cleaner....wow!

I remember when these came out, a lot of people started ordering custom versions from various sources because they wanted the guitar specs but not the EC signature at the 12th fret......an OM but a short scale 000 neck with Mod V....easier to bend the strings.

The way those sound I wouldn't care if Taylor Swifts name was on it. Wait yes I would, but I'd rock it anyway.

If you don't like the inlaid EC signature, you can probably black it out with a Sharpie. I'm not that picky. The general specs are really good, from my perspective.

The only thing I really don't like is the pixilated printed pickguard.

I should play mine more. Strings haven't been changed in several years.

Still, I tuned it up and played it tonight. It's nice. I may keep it after all.

By the way, the EC signature is at the 20th fret on mine.

If you want to sell it, keep me in mind. Its been a while since I held one, but don't remember the pickguard looking like something from Minecraft.

It's nice until you look at it with a magnifying glass, when you can tell that the pattern is printed on the material.  If it really bothered me, I'd get a real celluloid one made.

Well yes, the mean and cruel call it the pepperoni pickguard and I must like it because the identical one is on my 2006 HD28V. They change as things are in stock, I guess.

Yep, thanks Nick, the sig is down the dirty end, not the 12th. Does anyone play there? I suppose the canny mind would swap those frets for the worn ones around 1-5.....?

But sound and playability first! Wow!

I suppose the nearest Gibson to a 000 is the 185 type models?

P.S. .......the other guitar you should try, Nick, if you like the EC specs/neck etc, is the CEO7 - L00 made by Martin that sounds like a Martin with Gibson underpinnings because of the slope shoulders and the Mod V neck with adi/mahogany. Quite different again than the EC. My luthier kept mumbling about ‘great guitar, great guitar’ after he set it up for me.

I would like for Martin to just use black guards. That said only 2 of my 6 have black (000-28 and D-35, my D-28 had one but it's gone now). I've got 5 (00-18 and 000-18's) on Reverb I'm eyeing and only one has a black guard.

The EC sig a the end doesn't bother me. I had BB King on the head stock of the sig model and once plugged in you forget its there.

So, big day!

Had breaky, played the EC.

Had lunch, played the  CEO7 after talking about it here.

Took the Boss for a drive in the country, ahem, stopped at a music shop to pickup some more Humidipaks - one new pack for the EC and 2 new ones to replace some old model packs with an annoying plastic bar holding the bags in. I was quick as a flash in the shop but Boss and Dog staring daggers when I got back.....drove all over a few country roads I know. Went over a couple of freeway bridges and could see thousands of cars stopped! Kept going all the way home on back roads I know, probably like the Dukes would use!

Installed the Humidipaks and the last guitar I did was the big sister of the EC, my 2006 HD28V, so kept it out and played it for a while. What a wonderful guitar! Old story - I was going to sell it because it needed new frets....I asked for 3 new frets, luthier said I needed 8, a mix up occurred and he did ALL of them and a full setup and it plays so beautifully that I didn't, you know, go OFF.....

Now I want one. Okay I lied, I've wanted one for a while (the HD-28 not the CEO-7).

Thanks!

Yep, I wanted one too (D28) and it is not even really my 'thing'...I prefer 00 size guitars with balanced sound, but when that 2006 HD28V came up on consign 4 or 5 years ago, I made the mistake of playing it. I love Martins that have been played for at least 10 years! But it does get left out of the party a bit....a big lump of a guitar and the Vintage series Martin case, while very nice, is a boat anchor! I sprained my right wrist a bit lugging it around the house organising the Humidipaks! Now I am typing with a ...limp! The Eric has the same case! Smaller but still heavy. And the CEO7!......... The Hiscox case, my preferred is out of stock because of Covid - zip.

First World problem. The HD28V is an incredible sounding guitar.

I had a D-28 and miss it. There is a  I think used HD-28 at the shop I go to. Maybe after I get the 00 or 000-18, once the money comes in our kids will have to suffer for I'll see if its still there or maybe I'll just get the HD-28.

Looks like you are going to buy the whole range!

Anyway, it is good to have a few guitars, for example I just played 2 other guitars, one setup nicely by my luthier and the other a full custom 00 made by my luthier and of course the setup, and everything to do with it, are just.....a dream. And it highlights that my latest purchase, the EC, while playable, would be better after my doc got hold of it. Except he is incredibly busy. So if the EC was my only guitar, I would be jumpy!

I'm trying. Once I get a (H)D-28 and a 00 or 000-18 I will have all I want.

Here is some Martin porn for you.

Now, all you are missing is a few Gibsons to round things out.

I used to have a lot that plugged in. I had a J-15 for a hot minute and within about a week of owning it I know I was gonna sell it. I played one in GC that sounded great and was full price when they were about $1200 or so. A few weeks later I found one online used for $950, I think it had 2014 on the TRC, and I hit buy it. Got it and it wasn't the same beast. So like in that One Bourbon, One Scotch and One Beer song, out the door it went.

So, no Gibsons now, either acoustic or electric?

I played a 000-28EC that a friend got on a screaming great deal. Beautiful sounding guitar. However, I don't remember even spending ten seconds examining it for fit, finish or details, first because I've always come to expect them to be excellent on Martins, and second because chrome, fancy hubcaps and fiddly bits are of no interest to me.

As for the colour of pickguards, my 1974 D-28 originally had a black guard, and when it was replaced a few years ago the replacement was also black.

I think I read or heard and it may or may not be true, but supposedly the 000-28EC is one of Martin's best selling guitars.
