If you're talking about rock songs that also get some people dancing

Hurts So Good - John Cougar

Keep Your Hands To Yourself - Georgia Satelites

Can't Get Enough - Bad Company

Saw Her Standing There - The Beatles

Hard To Handle - Black Crows version

My all-time favorite bar cover is Roadrunner by Jonathan Richman

It's a great song, people like to dance to it, and it's relatively obscure, so there's bound to be at least one chick who thinks you wrote it. You can always tell her otherwise in the morning...

Now i'm off to the music room to write a country song called "You can always tell her otherwise in the morning"

I'm LOL over this.

As for songs to play at dances...

I Want You to Want Me by Cheap Trick

and, of course, there's always Gimme Three Steps or Mustang Sally. Ho-hum

My favorite slow dancer is No Woman, No Cry.

If I was going to form another band that did mostly covers I would have to include:

1. Play that Funky Music

2. Brick House

3. Tell Me Something Good

4. You've Got to Funkafize

5. What is Hip?

Throw in some extended solos and BAM! You've got a start of a grovin' play list.

I know that doesn't fit your question about Rock-n-Roll songs, but those have a groove that will make you move.
