DC200
Hello all, hope this finds you all well, and please excuse some of my southern slang. I am a retired fella and have been into electronics since the Air Force days. Been a guitarist for years and finally decided to dig into tube amps and some design tinkering. I came across Charles R. Couches writings and have been going through those. Along the way of finding his book I stumbled across this site which has a thread from some years ago which I hope means some one on here is following it also. I bring this up because I am hoping to find an answer to a question I have on a calculation he made on page 66 ; Iq = Imax / p = 0.318 x Imax . Since we've established Imax as 0.370 amperes, then Iq = 0.318 x 0.37 = .118 amperes or 118 milliamps. The problem for me is the variable "p", where does this come from? Thanks for any and all feedback.
rct
There are three kinds of people. Those that understand maff and those that don't. rct

All those damn formulas for solving inductive reactance and capacitive reactance and Ohm's Law. As for the variable, no clue, I now just fix electrical stuff that breaks where I work.
