Siva-Na-Gig
Hey everyone, I bought a Ripper bass back around 2007. The seller told me that it was built by a Gibson employee after hours for personal use, so it had some unique features: bolt on neck, custom truss cover, and no serial. The fit and finish look very good to me compared to other Gibson instruments I own or have been around. But I’m curious if this is even a thing that happened, or were Ripper’s faked? I’m curious to hear some opinions.
Grog
On first glance, it looks odd. The Ripper had a set neck while the Grabber & G3 had a bolt-on neck at the time. The 3 screw TRC looks Asian built.
Siva-Na-Gig
I think I have my answer after some digging. I’m pretty sure the bass is an Aria pro II LB-650 that someone added a 90’s Gibson headstock logo to. A lot of the details match the Aria and the logo matches my 90’s Gibson SG-1. jdgm
It is indeed definitely an Aria LB-650, despite the Gibson logo. I see you have the version with the thru-body string path but it hasn't been strung that way. .....
