jaxson50
Or does her voice remind you of Buffy St. Marie? She picks a little banjo too.

fortyearspickn
That was really great - Thanks Jaxson. Banjo appears to be a simple instrument - until you try to play it. That pesky 5th string, 3 finger picks. Drum head ... weighs more than twice as much as a guitar ... What's not to love. She does play a mean banjo, that's for sure !
uncle fester
That was cool, I like Mean Mary - but when it comes to female banjo players - I really like Eliza Doyle
fortyearspickn
Wowsers! Equally cool. Different style - no fingerpicks 'Frailing'. Brushing down on the strings with your nails instead of picking up with finger picks. Hard to do when waking on railroad ties OR jumping up and down in boots!!! Thanks Unc.
Whitefang
As a long time Buffy admirer, yes I do hear a bit of her in Mary's voice. And back in "the day" I thought Buffy was kinda cute, and this lady isn't too hard on the eyes either. VERY good picker too! And that "mean" part must refer to her pickin'. jaxson50
I was intrigued so I did a little search for he bio, she was reading music at the age of 5, before she could read the alphabet, she wrote her first song when she was five, it was titled Mean Mary from Alabam, her family called her Mean Mary after that. She was a passenger in a car that crashed and was thrown partially through the windshield and suffered damage to her neck, her vocal cords where paralyzed for nearly a year. And here is Mean Mary in concert
