1968 L4 -CES or ES-175 or ???

Recommended Posts

I am trying to sell this guitar for my late brother-in-laws estate. The label in the sound hole says this is a L4CES, serial number 899620. The inlays and tailpiece look original but don't seem to go with this model.  The serial number seems to say this was made in 1968.  Can anybody shed some light here?

Thanks!1590279301_2019-07-2117_10_44.thumb.jpg.d89d5b4d1925b77b7917602edadea966.jpg

I have to say based on the one picture and from the headstock that I think this guitar is not a real Gibson.

You are correct about the inlays and tailpiece as L4s usually have split parallelogram inlays and that is an ES 175-style tailpiece.

A Gibson L4 should also have binding over the edges of the frets ('nibs') and a slightly deeper cutaway.
