CBenson89
I am thinking about getting an LP studio but I’m curious if the pots are 500k. The lp studio has the same pickups as my 09 sg standard but the sg has the older pots that sound like they’re on 10 until you get to 1. Thanks guys! merciful-evans
Are these P90s or HBs? I think the modern HBs are 500k if memory serves. No idea about P90s.
Dub-T-123
Not sure what they’re using on modern P90 guitars but almost certainly 500K as well. fwiw, while researching for my Jr build, it seems that if you were to open up a 50s Les Paul Jr it would typically have 500K volume and 250K tone
mihcmac
Most Gibsons do use 500k pots even with the push/pulls for coil tapping like the LP Studio the specs don't actually say what "k", most of the guitars in the Modern Collection specs mention 500k's. https://www.gibson.com/Guitar/USAYNB363/Les-Paul-Studio/Wine-Red Edited October 10, 2021 by mihcmac
CBenson89
I have an 09 sg standard without the 500k pots and it sounds like it’s on 10 until you get down to about 2.
Lungimsam
Isn’t it the pots’ taper not the k that makes a pot do that? I heard linear taper pots go smoothly o-10 and back. Audo taper has the big jumps. Like 0-4 is barely anything then 5-8 is like full volume then 8-10 is no change?
Eracer_Team
There was a time that Gibson started using 300k pots instead of 500k Audio tape vs linear taper. Yes volume post are audio tape, linear taper doesn't work well for volume pots Some pots are better built better . I found RS Guitar Works pot taper better than most having a usable 0-10 control
