NGD, 40 years in the making

I sold off a lot of guitars over the past few months.
Four were divested this past week alone.

All in order to make room for a guitar that I've been lusting for for quite some time.
Probably since 1981, when I first picked up Elvis Costello's album Trust out of a sale bin in a record store in Wiesbaden, Germany, back in the day.

I admired his quirky song-craft and eccentric guitar playing.
I was an avid fan for many albums and many years, from Almost Blue to beyond Spike to Mighty Like The Rose. I listened to When I Was Cruel just the other day.

And I always fancied owning a Fender Jazzmaster some day.
One like his, or a close facsimile.

And so that day came today.
The 2021 Fender Player Jazzmaster black-faced CME Limited Edition.
I love it.

I need to bring the pickups up just a few miles closer to the strings, but congrats to the Chicago Musical Exchange for an otherwise nicely set-up guitar.

A Jazzmaster without the wacky pickup controls no one uses?

that's different.

And quite nice looking.

Enjoy.

I was just going to say it looks almost exactly like the 1966 Jazzmaster I used to have....minus the top knobs and the '66 did not have a painted headstock.

Enjoy!!!

I dig EC and have seen him 3 times. I have almost all of his back catalog on vinyl or CD. He was the last concert I saw in 2019 right before the world changed and concerts were gone for about a year and a half.

EC's first 7 albums were killer and after that for me it is hit and miss. The stand outs after the first 7 are Blood and Chocolate, Spike, and The Delivery Man. Honorable Mentions are Mighty Like A Rose and The Elvis Costello Show/King Of America, All This Useless Beauty and When I Was Cruel.

Years ago I built an all Warmoth  Olympic White Jazzmaster.

That one is killer and if I was to get one it would be that color.

I always thought Jazzmasters were nice lookin' axes.   As for EC?

He's OK.  I have nothing of his on recorded medium, but do like how he never stands still musically.  And hard to knock anyone who can attract the likes of  DIANA KRALL.  [wink]

Nice looking Fender - good to see you getting something fresh and new instead of another pawn shop fixer-upper 🙂  So we need a few more details.  Is that a Pau Ferro fingerboard?  and what type of pickups are they?  Have fun with that one!!   I look at that guitar and hear Ventures tunes.

Yessir, it's pau ferro wood on the fingerboard.
It'll get a little oil this weekend.

The pickups are called Pure Vintage '65 Reissue Jazzmaster Pickups.

I'm trying to read up on them.
Seems they aren't exactly P90's, but rather something altogether different.

From the inter-webs:
* Enamel-coated magnet wire delivers warm vintage-style tones
* Alnico 5 magnets add more focus and enhanced dynamics
* Flush-mount polepieces produce even string response
* Wax-potted
* Period-correct cloth wire and fiber bobbin construction

Sparquelito,

Congratulations on getting your dream guitar.

Really nice table. Did it come with the Fender?

RBSinTo

I bought the table on Oahu in 1999.

Some import furniture store who specialized in great stuff from Indonesia.
Monkeywood, with coconut inlays.

Pure guitar table tone.

Yeah why do the ugliest guys get smoking hot wives. Ric Ocasak, Billy Joel and EC were all married to or are married to beauties.
